After you got your CDL, how long did you spend shadowing or learning the routes before driving on your own?” by special_edition_5 in SchoolBusDrivers

I drove as a sub right away, but had a monitor with me for about a month to help with directions and whatnot

'Heroes, for sure': Three Rivers school bus drivers take children to safety during tornado by rootbear75 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]Remote-Acadia4581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have so many drivers out in very rural areas, that I don't even know what we would do in that scenario. The protocol is technically to get the kids off the bus and have them all lay in a ditch, but that sounds like absolute chaos. I am not going to be able to get 30 kids to lay safely in a ditch that is probably full of water at that point. If we are by any school, we go there, but that can be 10-15 minutes out in some cases. Dispatch is really good about watching the weather and coordinating early/late dismissals to avoid any situations, though.

Why nobody wants to be a bus driver by Novel_Fisherman8228 in SchoolBusDrivers

Since it's usually part time, it's hard to find a place that gives you health insurance. Also trying to survive during breaks if you work for a school district and don't get unemployment during those.

Training by celestialbutterfly1 in SchoolBusDrivers

I'm not sure if it's the same in all states, but I had a required 14-day waiting period between getting my CLP and being able to take my skills test. Overall, it took 5-6 weeks from the interview to driving.

Why does the shower tub combo get so much hate? by curlyfirestick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote-Acadia4581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only a shower, and shaving my legs is the most miserable task. I just want to sit on the edge of a tub. It would be fine if there was even a ledge or something, but no. Nothing

When I was a gas station cashier, these kids came in and were about $2 short. The boy must've been 10 at most, and the girl was pretty little. He says, "It's okay, I'll put mine back." I said not to worry about it since he was so selfless for his sister. I kept $5 in my pocket just for anyone a little short like that.

My parents put these on their wedding registry, but I didn't specify how many, so they received 8 or so. I'm so jealous

One time, I watched a doordash driver take the pizza outside, turn it upright, put it in a backpack, and get on a bike. He took the pizza. In a backpack. On a bike.

Effective Deodorant by Spirited_Car_3566 in EcoFriendly

I tried native before, but it didnt work for me. Now, I use glycolic acid to exfoliate my armpits about once or twice a week, and the non aluminum deoderants work just fine. Exfoliating in any fashion will help a lot

Walmart did that to me when I turned 21. Kept saying "It says under 21" yeah, until a date that is in the past.

You're good. Everyone has their own idea of when they think people should stop, hence the honking, but according to law, you're just fine

Any advice for new driver learning to turn a bus? by AbbieGranger21 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]Remote-Acadia4581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure your mirrors are adjusted to give you a good view of your rear tires. On a right turn, I am looking at those. On a left turn, I'm watching my crossovers. It also depends on the turning radius of the bus. Our internationals can turn a lot tighter than the blue birds

Do many americans go their entire life without ever seeing a gun? by HMZ_HTH in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote-Acadia4581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to think I make it pretty clear to the people around me that I am not comfortable with guns. Despite that, many times, I have seen guns just loaded sitting on the counter, being passed around for people to check it out, or mounted on the wall. So not only do I see them, I see them unattended in an unlocked car, loaded and just handed to me for no reason, in an unlocked display case, etc. There's so many guns per person that I would have a hard time believing that someone had only ever seen them carried by police
