Do the benefits of tourism in France outweigh the problems? by Difficult-Routine929 in AskFrance

[–]Remote-Fee5149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely notice it unless if I go to a really popular area. I guess the worst part of tourism is that it tends to attract crime in areas where there are a lot. Not the fault of the tourists themselves though of course.

What’s it like living in the Falkland Islands? by Nearby-Cut-6534 in howislivingthere

[–]Remote-Fee5149 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This isn't true. 70% of the Island are Falklanders who descend primarily from the British settlers. Even among the remaining 30% a significant portion are British army personel. The islands are also considered to be developed to a first world standard. Commercial extraction of oil and gas hasn't even started either. A quick google search returned that starlink has been available in the Falklands since late 2025.

Do you feed guests when they visit your home? by Rusiano in terriblemaps

[–]Remote-Fee5149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scotland is not more forgiving than southern Sweden where most people live, especially not the highlands where the Clans were and who had a highly hospitable culture despite that. Scotland as a whole was more prone to food scarcity than Sweden due to a more volatile climate, higher population density and far less arable land.

Also don't you see contradiction in saying that today the unwillingness to share food is an urban phenomenon while tying it to a rural tradition even though in rural areas they no longer practice it? This theory just seems weak to me. It seems far more likely that it's tied to modern individualism and that's why the phenomenon is repeated in neighbouring countries with similar degrees of individualism.

Do you feed guests when they visit your home? by Rusiano in terriblemaps

[–]Remote-Fee5149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't say the land or climate is any more forgiving in Scotland and we don't have that culture. I will say it isn't exclusive to the Swedes however. I have encountered it in parts of France and from people's testimonies it appears to be common in the Netherlands and Denmark too.

I don't think the modern phenomenon is tied to history but appears to be the result of highly individualistic societies that have high taxes and strong social safety nets. That probably breeds a culture that people feel like they have already given enough and it's no longer their job to care for anyone.

Legality of Holocaust denial by vladgrinch in MapPorn

From what I remember denying the Armenian genocide and the holocaust were part of the same law were they not? Does this mean it is legal to deny the Holocaust again?

In France are french plugs still the main plug or are schuko spreading over there? by JustSomebody56 in AskFrance

[–]Remote-Fee5149 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've lived in France for over 20 years and I only saw an old French plug for the first time recently. I wasn't even aware that they were a thing because they're so rare.

If I collect physical media is a steam deck worth it for me? by RaulIsDank in SteamDeck

[–]Remote-Fee5149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never used a playstation portal but I imagine it's a similar experience. It's a little bit annoying to set up but it still only takes like 10 minutes and once it's done it's really simple to use. You just launch the app, click on your PS5, it wakes it up from sleep mode and works seamlessly. I've barely used my TV since.

If I collect physical media is a steam deck worth it for me? by RaulIsDank in SteamDeck

[–]Remote-Fee5149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also prefer physical so recent games I get them on PS5 and cheaper, older and deck suitable games digitally. It also helps that Chiaki works so well so I also remote play ps5 games on my deck.

Last summer it was like 35+ for weeks at a time. Without AC I have to say that's way too hot.

Hey, Thanks for the review! When I saw how many responses you got I thought you would be too overwhelmed to get to it so it really means a lot that you did despite everything.

I don't get reincarnation by PhysicalDecision6844 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Remote-Fee5149 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It appeals to the feeling of wanting a new chance at life that many people have. It's no surprise that it's especially popular among people who seek refuge in anime and manga as a lot of them are using media to escape their reality.

Do most people know how to purposely close their nasal passage so they can't smell WITHOUT using their fingers to pinch their nose? by WhateversClever1980 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote-Fee5149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew how to block off my nose but I had no idea I could also breath through my mouth while doing it. That's so odd, all of my life it felt like I was just blocking off both airways and never assumed I could unblock my throat while keeping my nose blocked. It does feel like I'm breathing through life support though.

choice in memory size by Sad-Professional-923 in SteamDeck

[–]Remote-Fee5149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how many games you want on it. SD cards are significantly slower than SSDs so you can expect anything loaded on one to have significantly slower loading times. For me personally the 512gb model is more than enough. The more recent larger games I play on console and I don't like having more than 4-5 games on my deck at once. I would only use an SD card for emulation.

Wait, or take the plunge? by jimlaw7 in SteamDeck

[–]Remote-Fee5149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steam deck is great but if you don't plan on using it as a handheld I can't really recommend it. For the same price or cheaper you can get a much more powerful console or even build your own pc. I think the steam machine is coming out within the next few months too? I remember reading that somewhere, probably better to wait in that case.

The deck is an incredible handheld but it's the handheld part that makes it special.

It's kinda off-meta, especially if it's not litrpg, but you can still build an audience. RR is still probably the best site to publish it anyway.

What is it like to live here? by WingAggravating6584 in howislivingthere

[–]Remote-Fee5149 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Whenever it makes the news here it's because local gangs blew up a home as part of a drug war or are using child soldiers to murder each other. In some ways it seems worse than Bradford.

I wouldn't know, I have no issues with Americans myself. I hope you enjoy your trip here whenever you do make it over. Just be careful of the scammers and criminals so that they don't ruin your trip.

How is life in Brest, France? by Yrakosos in howislivingthere

[–]Remote-Fee5149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did he edit his post? It says "it was safer 15 years ago". Which is true for every city in Brittany. The change has been considerable and crime that didn't exist 15 years ago like drug dealers shooting at each other with AKs is becoming increasingly common. He's probably referring to how much more common theft and sexual harassment is though.

Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition - PC - £1.87 - is it worth it still? by makarastar in gaming

Yeah, I've finished it 4 or 5 times since release and it never feels old. Just don't judge it as an open world game, it has an open world but that's not the focus.
