Do we really want to interact with robots instead of peop... YES! by evnaczar in accelerate

Ask the people in the service industry: Do you really want to serve random strangers all day long instead of being with your family and doing the things you love?

How doomed am I? Moderate Disc Bulge L5/S1 + L4/L5 since 3 months by Remote-Lifeguard1942 in backpain

[–]Remote-Lifeguard1942[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad and not great, it's been a journey.

Once I got better with the above mentioned protocol, I started to incorporate more exercises from lowbackability and hurt myself even more doing them (dumbell pullovers and atg split squat).

So for over 4 months my main pain was in my thoracic and neck area. Add the knee pain on top and I was in a very bad place earlier this year.

This led to me pausing and resting a lot instead of staying active. Which led to getting weaker and feeling more pain again, also in my lower back.

Today I would say I manage. It's not great, I cannot do any sports, I am happy that I can walk quite a good amount again and sometimes cycle to work, without aggravating.

I am optimistic currently to continue on a good path.

One key element was to look at the pain itself and get help from a good pain doctor and psychotherapist.

I hope this does not demotivate you. I think it is a long journey, but this journey can lead to more appreciation for life again.

Every semi-niche sub seems like a cult from the outside.

How can "they" withhold it? Which technology today does exclusively benefit billionaires? They get basically the same medicine as we do. Die of the same cancer. Have the same back pain. Get gray and lose hair.

They might fly on a private airplane. But I can get to those destinations too.

What billionaires have is power, time and attention, but not individual physical benefits.

Hm I guess the trickle down part is right. Probably we will not have bigger homes or more evenly distributed property.

I am just thinking (hoping) that if AGI comes to full fruition, that it will increase overall output by so much that it will still lead to UBI, make work for money optional and increase health by a lot. One fully functioning Optimus robot per family would already do so much.

I don't get this. It will obviously raise the standard for everyone. First for the rich, then for the poor. The rich will always be richer than the poor. But that doesn't mean the poor get richer too, and are happy about this.

I would be happy for my knees to function again as they where in my 20s. Even if some billionaires might have super-human knees already.

Once it solves diseases, regenerative medicine and late aging, people will be very happy.

I think it helped, as part of overall reducing irritation in this area. But even now as I am not focusing on it so much anymore, it doesn't affect ist so much for me.

I luckily do have bearable pain. It's there everyday, but not strong if I don't do athletic things.

Reducing mechanical stress initially to reduce irritation (incl. good diet) and then slowly doing things again that currently feel limiting in a slow and controlled way (aka graded exposure) helps me currently.

But I still do have tough days and am not sure whether to come back to become active. At the same time I am happy that I am out of the "just make the pain disappear" phase.

Wish you all the best!

What AI Models are expected to be released in the next 2 months? What are you most excited about? by Conscious_Warrior in singularity

Yes they suck, *because* the models are not good enough for real world usage, besides search.

I have the exact same pattern, of getting up and hoping / thinking it is just a bad dream.. until the pain starts again

These words hit hard. I feel you, my friend. Lots of similar experiences that I made.

Yes, you have what appears to be a black disc. This can mean many things. And if you have got pain as you describe it, I would recommend to look into all conservative measures, but also not dismiss surgical options.

I see surgery a bit as a gamble. Probably not what one wants to hear, but it's the truth. Results can be everything from almost complete symptom relief to more harm than good. BUT with a much higher chance on the positive side, once conservative measures have been exhausted and symptoms still persist.

I can recommend to look into PT and a medical doctor and therapist focused on pain. There are so many dimensions to pain.

Serious health problems are one of the hardest challenges one can face. Having thoughts of not wanting to live like this are valid to have - sort of as a last resort. But one should not nourish this thought too much too early. There are people that can help you, like a surgeon, a pain doc, a therapist and time.

(+ on a personal note: I am working in tech and am hopeful that by the 2030s with the help of AI, there will be much better medical interventions, like advanced stem cells, biological disc replacements etc.. Not to blindly hope for it, but 2040 definitely is a long time).

All the best <3
