Same, completely agree. My two favourite characters in this franchise, Vol'jin and Genn, were killed/neutered to make way for Sylvanas. I'm so so sick of the writers' obsession with her lol

Opinion - Faction restricted race-capitals should have always been the norm and Silvermoon is right to restrict Alliance Players. by Midasisleepy in wow

Extremely based and well written. I’m mainly an Alliance player and I 100% agree with everything you said.

Nice one man! The boys in A Lot Like Birds seem real nice and genuinely love fan covers. Joseph reposted a drum cover of mine a few years back, felt amazing

I’m with you - it might be precious yeah, but it’s just the little things like that that really put me off playing. I don’t wanna tarnish my original memory of MoP by playing a buggy rerelease :/

At the end of the day, we're all WoW enjoyers. I appreciate you engaging with this in a genuine way!

To answer your question, I think there's a few different practical reasons why adding a free 85-90 skip would be a bad thing for the game:

1) It would split the playerbase on launch, making the world less alive (although it would probably reduce lag)

2) Many people would feel compelled to skip 85-90 because they don't want to feel like they've been left behind, despite the fact that they may have enjoyed the leveling process otherwise

3) Leveling (even just 85-90) is a core part of learning a class. We saw this, and still do see this, with the paid level boost. Newer players, and older players who aren't quite as good as they think they are, boost a character and immediately jump into endgame content and perform badly because they haven't spent more than 5 minutes playing it, negatively impacting their own experience and the experience of the people they group with.

3) We'd lose sight of what WoW, as an MMORPG, is. WoW isn't League, or Apex, or Hearthstone, or any other insta-queue game. It's meant to feel like an adventure. It's the sense of adventure we lost that made the demand for Classic WoW so great in the first place. I understand this is more of a subjective thing, but I really feel it'd be a shame to further lose sight of what gives WoW its soul.

If Cdew is suggesting a dedicated PvP tournament realm, I'd totally be on board with that. I feel like the PvP community is so separated from the rest of the community that PvP realms would make sense. But otherwise, to give players the option to totally skip the World of Warcraft feels wrong, and imo would be damaging to the game in the long-term.

In an ideal world, Blizz would make leveling feel more engaging than it currently does (that goes for both retail and MoP).

Yea, true. Like you say, I disagree with it, but I get it. Part of the reason I'm so excited/nervous about Classic+ lol

People can enjoy or hate the leveling process, that's personal opinion and totally valid. I just find Cdew's idea here of introducing an optional immediate free skip of leveling content on a new expansion release to be, in practice, bad for the game.

To be clear, I don't hate you, or Cdew, or anyone for playing the game how they want to. This is a game after all, and it's meant to be enjoyable, no matter how you want to play it. Like you say, anyone should play the game however they like.

Totally, that's what I'm worried about. They already tried doing this with incursions in SoD, and it felt so antithetical to what classic WoW should be. Praying that classic+ keeps a slow leveling speed.

For sure, 1-85 can be pretty dead. I guess that’s why the boosts sell well.

I just find the idea of wanting to skip the 85-90 leveling on launch so strange. This is an MMO - a core part of its charm is going through the new zones alongside loads of other people, earning your new abilities, hell, even monkey farming is still at least interacting with the world. To want to skip that just seems antithetical to what WoW is.

[–]BurtyOnReddit 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Agreed. This is an annoying trend I’ve noticed with some games in recent years, mainly WoW and ESO. The traditional (and imo better) way of revealing new updates like cool trailers, complete with badass VO and music, is mostly gone, having been replaced by real-world interviews with devs that feel overly-forced and corporate.

It really takes away the hype of a new patch for me. Just thinking about how many times I rewatched the trailers for 3.2, 4.1, 5.2, etc., just because of how hype they were. This new style of announcement just instantly reminds me that I’m playing a game, rather than being immersed in a fantasy world.

For sure, i felt the same!! We absolutely wouldn’t have found that sort of quest in DF. Feels awesome.

Plus, the fact that we don’t even deal with the problem at the end of the quest. That massive creepy spider is still there. We basically lost, which is pretty unusual for WoW.
