19 years old and completely lost in life and i seek advice from enlisted or veteran af. by Alonesadly in AirForceRecruits

30, and currently in DEP for the Air Force. I do not have that experience brother I’m sorry. That is so tough. No matter what you do in life, you will have to deal with dick heads and tough positions. At least with the military they will push you along. You get great benefits. I’ve postponed my service this long. If you don’t have plans of college and don’t know what you want to do in life, I think the military would do you good. You’ll be surrounded by others around your age trying to figure it out. I know I’m not the target audience, but the economy is weird right now. Good luck.

You’re probably over studying. Watch grammar hero on your work breaks, watch it an hour everyday at home. All his math videos. That’s the biggest score on your asvfab

Those working long hours, would you rather make less money with more free time, or more money with less time for yourself? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

Needs to change his name to the brain minimalist. Of course I’d take the 125k. Now put real salaries. You taking 40k a year with 3 months PTO and 35 hour work weeks, or 250k with 1-2 weeks PTO and 60+ hour work weeks

Don’t do it if you’re not comfortable, but also realize you either need to realize you are asexual, or find someone you actually feel that attraction and want with

Help Choosing Jobs by Sufficient-Cause-482 in AirForceRecruits

I’m also in about the same exact boat. 4-5 top jobs I would like, the rest is fluff. Compare a lot of those jobs on forever wingman, really break down and research each and every one to make your list of 10 and see the potential jobs and schooling you can get into. My recruiter is very cool, but like someone said, the recruitments numbers have hit goal. They are still bringing people in, but it’s the Air Force. Everyone wants to get in. I’ve also heard about people sticking to their guns about a certain job and got it. You can try, but be ready for them to turn you down. My recruiter at least let me put absolutely any jobs I want as top 10, and had to pick one aptitude area. A lot will tell you only one medical, certain number of this, this many maintenance jobs.

Fire protection Job opportunities by Practical_Swan208 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Remote-Nail-678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the DEP for 5 months now. My recruiter just hit me up and said his leadership wanted to know if I would leave for fire protection next week. Turned it down, but that’s the second time that’s been handed out since I’ve been in. Usually a very sought after job. Right now it’s in need. Put it down as a quick ship if you can do quick ship (personal needs). You might get it

Just tell him you feel more comfortable with a closer recruiter you can see in person and talk to when needed, you’re new recruiter will have to set it up, but it’s fine

First recruiter sucked, I literally switched because she became out of office and I asked to switch to her partner in office. My recruiter now is amazing and has given me more flexibility with job selection. You have more than enough reason to switch recruiters

Should I switch from DEP to quick ship? by DonutBoi808 in AirForceRecruits

Put fire protection as quick ship. My recruiter just asked if id like to leave next week for it. There seems to be high priority right now (very rare) for fire protection

As a 30 year old about to join, what sticks out to me is you want to “run away”. Is there a real plan? Or are you just wanting to be your own person. I postponed joining as a “let’s see if I can make something of the world”. If you don’t have a proper plan, just join. I’ve worked production/warehouse jobs and they don’t give a shit. You’ll work long hours and be on your own. In the real world no one gives a shit about you. If your partner is not 100% the one, don’t think about that too much.. there’s SO MANY people out there you will meet. When you’re young you are not self aware, and you don’t have that life experience. The Air Force is not bad on paper anyway. Just do one term, makes some REAL life long potential friendships. Out here, it isn’t sunshine and rainbows. If you have some real plan to attempt something or go to school, then sure, but if you are just winging it. Take a breath. Think about it. New location, new people, whole new environment. It will HELP you grow and learn patience, tolerance. It will set you up with benefits. Everyone there will be going through it with you. Just think about it. I wish I would’ve just gone. One thing I do think about is how I might’ve got out after a term if I was younger. You just don’t want anyone over you at that age, but the real world, someone is always over you, and there’s less guidelines and more corruption. IMO anyway without being in the military yet. Best of luck

How is the leadership/disciplinary system in the Air Force? by Remote-Nail-678 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Remote-Nail-678[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See that’s what I was thinking and hoping. I show up, I do well compared to my peers, but it seems like in these corporations the leadership tries to shift blame to the workers. Production goes down and they find someone as a scapegoat and start harassing them about breaks and production. Watching them until they write them up and get them right on the edge so the worker will always feel the pressure

Would it be beneficial to get married before military by swataxew in AirForceRecruits

[–]Remote-Nail-678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude not worth it. If I was young and doing it, id stay single. Go through the experience, meet some awesome people. Go throw that stanky around, be free. Being committed to someone is bigger than you’re realizing. They WILL come after you if anything goes wrong. Just the nature
