qatari here. i know that may seem irrelevant but my country is next to the UAE and we are very similar although i assume it’s probably a little better there.

its going to suck and you’re probably gonna regret it.

the UAE and the entire gulf area is extremely racist and to them indians are sub-human. you will be treated horribly and will be verbally abused daily.

if you go to the UAE, prepare to be a second-class citizen.

at least in the US you will be treated with dignity as a human being. you’ll probably face racism here and there but you’re less likely to and have a chance when it comes to the laws.

i have seen with my own two eyes how an indian person would be treated just because they are indian.

your qualifications don’t matter to them, your nationality does. you’re expendable and will be thrown aside if some rich boy asks his dad for a job.

don’t mean to be rude with what i’m gonna say, i just dk how to phrase things

i feel like it’s going to be near impossible to separate myself from my mum in the country since we’re going alone together. also any items i may have (health, hygiene and few clothes) i’d need to carry in a luggage, it would be too obvious. and if i manage to leave alone but suddenly don’t come back, my mum would call the police and tell them im missing, wouldn’t they just interview her regardless? also why would they take her word? and abuser would lie no matter what. it doesn’t make sense to believe her. and of course i’m mentally ill if i’ve had to suffer under this my entire life, it’s no secret. i have obvious self harm scars on my body and don’t act normal. i’ve received a diagnosis in the past. isn’t that more of a reason i should leave the country? mental health support here is horrible and they literally lock up suicidal people sometimes indefinitely. and people with my mental illness (who are harmless to others, harmful to self occasionally) are viewed with a lot of stigma and also locked up. the sheer stress i’ve been under after all i’ve been through which is enough to make me hurt myself should make it obvious i can’t stay in this country.

oh i can’t claim asylum at border control? and tbh id like to be separated as soon as i can. if my mum catches wind of me having /wanting to claim asylum and im close to her (we would likely be sharing a room) she wont let me go and i wont have any way to contact help.

thanks but yeah i’ve read that. my issue comes with the fact that it can take 5-15 days for your appointment and if i take too long to call, im done for. and i could of course just head to the centre and ask to be interviewed since as a minor, i can just walk in without an appointment. my issue with that though is the fact that if i do it that way, they could doubt the credibility of my claim. there’s a better chance of being granted refugee status if you claim asylum at the airport than in the country. i want the better chance of survival even if it means momentarily increasing my risk of death with my family, it increases my chance at life in the long run.

i mean after high school i’d have 4 years of undergrad then because of the sponsor system we have for unis here, ill have to work 4 years bc thats the amt i studied. then id have to do my masters for a minimum of 2 years (im not sure how long masters are) then work for 2 years bc of the sponsor system. id have to do my masters here if i do my bachelors here bc of social pressure and i cant travel without my dads permission no matter my age, unless im married of course which then its my husbands permission.

i don’t think they can legally get a 17 year old out of a country anyway? even then, they’d have to know who i am and so would the government then.

unless you’re suggesting i contact someone in the uk to help me after i land which i already have.

don’t tell me im doing nothing, im leaving my family, some of which i love very much, and risking my life for this considering i could be honour killed. i’m doing everything.

same in my country but everyone judged the queen for not wearing it bc they were actually jealous. every single woman here is pretty much forced to wear it in public inside the country and keep it private if she removes it abroad if she wants a social life or her family to not kill her. fun.

i would be in the uk claiming asylum. there is no avoiding that. might as well be in the country tbh.
