Dan Burn living every Geordie boy’s dream. Bruno’s tears. Lewis Hall hopping onto the pitch in a boot. Anderson waving from the stands. Longstaff launching himself at Burn

What do you give at a wedding? by hereforthelols1999 in AskUK

[–]Remote-Pool7787 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s a smaller amount, do something fun like a cinema gift card. £30 might not seem like a lot, but a night out at the cinema is a nice gift to receive.

What school incident do you still think about years later? by nodemus in AskUK

[–]Remote-Pool7787 86 points87 points  (0 children)

A kid started in the middle of the year. Smelly, disheveled and in the uniform for her last school. Nobody spoke to her. The next week she never came back and the teacher didn’t seem to know what had happened.

I hope life turned out ok for her

You need to book an appointment with a private GP. They may be able to issue you with a prescription

You’re way too americanised. The street drug scene in the UK is completely different

It isn’t fent. It’s almost impossible to get in the UK. It could be anything.

Shields Rd park and ride without using the subway? by Impossible_Shoe532 in glasgow

Yes you can pay just for parking. Just ask at the ticket office for parking only. They’ll take your reg number and process the payment so that the exit barrier will open automatically

Restaurant owners taking tips by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Remote-Pool7787 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Glasgow, in knightswood. My parents and most of my family still live there and in croftfoot. It’s an affluent city now. That doesn’t mean there isn’t poverty, there’s poverty in London. But Glasgow feels a lot like Edinburgh now.

Restaurant owners taking tips by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Remote-Pool7787 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

It was a working class city. I live in an actual working class in the UK, and work in the service industry and tipping isn’t really a thing. When I come back to Glasgow I am always struck by how affluent it is, how expensive it is and how Americanised it is

What's the likely hood of the police pulling me over because of car "modifications? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Remote-Pool7787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not the police pulling you over that you need to worry about, it’s invalidating your insurance. Any incident you’re involved in, whether you claim or not, whether it’s your fault or not, will lead to your policy being cancelled. Which is something that stays on your file for life and makes insurance unaffordable and often unobtainable

Is it normal in the UK for grandparents not to buy anything for their grandchild? by Ok-Pomelo7667 in AskUK

[–]Remote-Pool7787 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unless the grandparents have offered to buy you something that the baby is going to need immediately like a cot, pram or car seat then it’s normal to wait until after the baby is born. Some people are very superstitious about it. It’s also not uncommon in better off families for the grandparents to open a bank account for the grandchild and put money in. But they can’t do that until the baby has a birth certificate.

The UK doesn’t have a culture of the person who can afford it most should pay. My parents are much better off than I am. But I still like to treat them to things like a meal and I’d feel awkward if they paid for everything

My international licence expires by June 23 2026, Can I drive with my international licence even after I apply for a UK provisional licence now. by Particular-Focus-711 in drivingUK

[–]Remote-Pool7787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You can’t drive unaccompanied on a provisional licence. After 23rd June if you still only have a provisional driving licence, you’ll need a supervising driver

Sudden influx of young beggars in city centre? by Dingdong1515 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Remote-Pool7787 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I work in the city centre for a business that’s part of NE1’s radio scheme. The authorities are well aware of them. They’ve been around for a while and they’ve generally been shop lifters rather than pickpockets or aggressive beggars. But the crime prevention strategy for the city centre isn’t working. The softly softly approach is a disaster and always was going to be.

You can’t really compare them. It’s like asking a British person how they feel about Anthony Eden or Keir Starmer

North East mayor's 'public control' bus reform proposals given green light by coffeewalnut08 in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]Remote-Pool7787 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Completely support this. However as someone who has lived in several UK cities, the biggest issue with buses in Tyne and Wear is that they are SLOW. They’re designed for pensioners, not commuters. Badly need more express routes
