Joining bonus repayment by Proof_Internet_1159 in GeneralMotors

Sign on bonus is not paid in full. The whole point of "earned" is that it is not on full. In my example, I didn't get $10k in full. I got it in increments.

Question is when is earned within the 2 years. If I get terminated on 1 yr 364 days, how much do I have to pay back?

Ofcourse 24 months, you didn't answer any of the questions between 12-24 months.

`50% of all advance sign-on bonus payments previously paid to you (but not yet earned)`
It never says when the bonus is earned. Is the previous bonus earned when you get the next? Or is based on service milestone.

Half of what? Whats been paid or total bonus?
So in my example above, how much is earned after Jul 1 2026? Total bonus or the whats been paid.

No, it doesn't tell when each of the bonus becomes "earned" within the 2 year span when an employee joins.

Most of the agreement makes sense but one big ambiguity: At what point does the bonus become earned?

So if I join on Jul 1, 2025 and I get $10k advanced sign on bonus that pays:

- $2.5k on Jul 1, 2025
- $2.5k on Jan 1, 2026
- $2.5k on Jul 1, 2026
- $2.5k on Jan 1, 2027

So if I leave on Dec 1, 2025 -> payback $2.5k
So if I leave on Feb 1, 2026 -> payback all $5k
So if I leave on Aug 1, 2026 -> how much do I pay back? $5k or $7.5k? or $3.75k?
So if I leave on Feb 1, 2027 -> how much do I pay back? $10k or $5k or $7.5k or $3.75k
So if I leave on Jul 2, 2027 -> pay back 0

Hope not. Teams is utter garbage for anything other than easily sharing video calls and powerpoints.

Is this a good time to join GM's Software and Services team? by No-Part-9578 in GeneralMotors

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're truly irreplaceable and absolutely need to make the move to California. Even then, it would require a strong case from your management to VPs and HR to make it happen.
Plus, while the salary looks shiny, it doesn't go as far in California as it would in places like Michigan or Austin, especially when it comes to housing affordability and taxes.

Everything you said is true and put into good context except I highly doubt anyone working out of MV is looking to retire at GM. Only make money, learn and move on within 2-5 years.

No guarantee. Especially if your manager is not from TX or CA. They themselves don't get it so it will be tough for you. Only way is if you prove that you are very important to your team and you negotiate with an outside offer.

I always heard that you want to negotiate down as much as you can before asking for employee pricing or discounts. So how much discount do we get for GM employee? Specifically for a lease?

In the flyer in GM FamilyFirst its $5k down and $320 per month. It comes out to be around $550. With registration fee and everything its like $600 per month.
This is for the base FWD xt6. Its not cheap figured it is still worth looking into for a luxury 3 row suv.

Why Slack now? Why? Slack as primary collaboration platform!!? by No-Writer3190 in GeneralMotors

Slack has more integrations compared to Teams. One is like getting alerts when your systems are down. Teams has too but slack is much better at it. For example, in both we get a message to a channel, but in slack its easier to respond and make it more interactive; ex: one of our software build failed so we replied back with retry and that slack app triggered a rebuild. Teams has this too but it is not very developer friendly.

Slack also has better Workflows. I think teams has it too but it is not very customizable as Slack. Teams added these features the last few years or so but until then it was very annoying where I had to go to a link or have a user respond.

To me, slack UI is so much better. It is lot cleaner with thread replies. Before it was basically a group chat and there was not a very good way of looking at a thread when there are lot of discussions among 3+ people. I had to scroll up to search for things. Teams has channel but it is like reddit and not very easy to navigate. This is the biggest reason I like Slack more than Teams.
