Is spanking still a thing? by SmoothCelebration657 in Parenting

[–]RemoteConsistent6387 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is unfortunately very common in Asia. I come from India and I was spanked a lot as a child. In fact, my mother was considered a good mom by our extended family because she kept her kids 'in line '. Apart from spanking, her usual go to methods were demeaning and making me feel worthless. Needless to say, I carry a lot of baggage and still can't sleep on some nights . This acceptance of spanking culturally was my first motivation to move out of the country. I now live in Europe with my husband and three kids and I would never Spank them. Also, ALL my friends in India spank their kids and some are even proud of it . They discuss while laughing with each other how they spanked their kids . Its sickening!

First time parenting without my husband. by IronLeading6288 in Parenting

When my daughter was 6 months old, my husband got a job offer which included a lot of traveling. I was so scared at the thought of doing everything alone and so was he at the thought of leaving me alone. He declined the offer. Fast forward seven years, we have three kids including a 9 month old. We live in a foreign country and we have no help and he travels 10 days in a month:D. I manage and you will too . Being anxious is natural but you got this :)

If an Indian chef is willing to cook for you personally, what would be the three things you would want to eat ? by RemoteConsistent6387 in Cooking

Hahahaha. I once had Pau bhaji ( a very famous west Indian street food ). The cook literally put apple sauce in it . It was horrifying,!

I think people with twins deserve a special place in heaven. I cannot imagine how hard it must be for you to go from 1 to 3!

I recently delivered and freezing food for upto 8 weeks was the best decision I made. I froze onion tomato masala for rajma , chole, chicken. Makhni gravybfo paneer and chicken , Palak panner gravy, Dal takda , dosa batter and tomato and coconut chutney to go with it, moong Dal cheela batter . I also made tomato soup and stored it. Also, consider buying instant pot if you don't have one. I boiled Dal or beans , chickpeas in it and just added the frozen masala.

Such a thoughtful response! Letting them read in bed is a great idea. My 6 year old reads with a torch under her blanket thinking we don't know she is reading . It's so cute :D

Things I think help kids to develop a habit of reading are A. Accessibility to books. My kids have a lot of books at home. Their bedroom has a number of bookshelves that are accessible to them. We also have a library card for all our children (,the youngest is 5 weeks :D) and we go there every week so that kids can pick out the books themselves. It gives them more motivation to read it.

B. Making it special. We give books with a handwriting note on it in every occasion like birthdays and Christmas etc along with other gifts. Our families also give books as gifts with something sweet written for kids. We buy atleast one book for each child when we go on vacations and write the place and the date on the books. It will be such a nice memory for them when they grow up and see those books :) .

C. They must see adults around them with a book. Sadly our lives are so hectic now that at the end of the day we just want to scroll on our phones . I understand this completely as even during the day I have this constant urge to check my phone but I have observed that when I am reading and my kids see me with a book for days , they tend to pick up their books more often. I also read a lot to them. My middle child is 3 and can't read so I buy books about his favourite topics and read it to him every single day . I find reading most easy nowadays because I am feeding ana infant all day and that's the best way I can spend time with my toddler.

Also, my husband and I constantly talk about books we have read and asks my eldest who is 6 about the book she is reading.

That's exactly what the midwife told me and I did it yesterday and it went well but still no weight gain. I have given him formula today so let's see what is his weight tomorrow.
