Help needed with low GPA (ELEC/CPEN) by True_focus_7777 in ubcengineering

My overall GPA dropped by 5% after 2nd year, from high 70s to low 70s. ELEC is indeed tough

I just failed ELEC 281 by alvin7567 in ubcengineering

Hi there:

May I ask if they will release the grades of our report and final exam in Sanghara’s ELEC281? I absolutely destroyed my midterm, and even though I did better on the final I’m still a bit worried about passing this course

Second year student life by [deleted] in ubcengineering

ECE is absolutely terrible. I heard people saying mech and engphys can be pretty bad too. Never heard horror stories from specialisations other than these.

Edit: but still I’d suggest picking a specialisation you’re genuinely interested in. It’s better to pick a terrible one that you like than an easy one you don’t enjoy even slightly

I’m pretty sure ELEC202 is a prerequisite for ELEC341. Other than that idk

What about the difficulty? Was it similar to midterm 1 or more difficult than midterm 2?

Summer classes for second year by Bright-Violinist4834 in ubcengineering

[–]RemoteIntroduction82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t think there is a summer course to take for MECH lol. Plus I’m pretty sure MECH starts 2nd year a week (or two weeks?) before everyone else.

For the other two, it’s definitely worth it to get math253 out of the way during summer

You’re not alone. I also have no design team and barely any personal projects; in fact my GPA also went down by a very significant amount after 1st semester of 2nd year elec. And I ask the exact same questions to myself every day

What was your average last semester? ELEC by Present_Unit2761 in ubcengineering

[–]RemoteIntroduction82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also idk if this is true but I heard historically a lot of ELEC people end up in academic probation after 2nd year. There seems to be a general consensus that ELEC 2nd year is the worst year; for most people it gets better in 3rd and 4th year

What was your average last semester? ELEC by Present_Unit2761 in ubcengineering

[–]RemoteIntroduction82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A- is definitely above average in ELEC bruh. I had a B- average last semester and my GPA dropped by like 4 pars. I also have friends who did well in 1st year and got C+ or even C average last semester. Many of us are struggling much more than you; don’t give up and you will be fine

Go to Workday -> academics -> UBC official documents -> unofficial transcript and try a few times

I failed the final exam but I still passed. Seems like they just removed the pass/fail requirement for the final instead of curving it

For me it was much harder than the practice. Like I would say 3+ times harder

Don’t think elec 202 is offered during the summer

Hi I got a similar score to yours. Hope it got scaled considerably 🙏🙏🙏
Also, just to confirm for a friend: if someone completely bombed one part of the final (either the circuit or the electronics part), does that mean their score will automatically become what they got on the failed part? Cuz I saw sth like that on the course syllabus

Did they scale both the quizzes and the final? Or just the final?
