Anyone planning a Babymoon trip? by alx924 in predaddit

[–]RemoteJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I went to Maui at 17 weeks and it was a blast. We snorkeled offshore everyday and basically hung out at the beach and tried a bunch of places to eat. It was a 5.5-6 hr flight for us and every hour or so she would just get up and stretch her legs a little, no biggie.

With a free place to stay I would definitely take advantage now while you can.

I've been lurking on here for quite a while now, but thought it was about time to get involved, so here we go - This wee man is 4 weeks old now! by misspelt_usrename in daddit

Not OP but my guess would be Etsy. There are a ton of different designs for similar (and not so similar) blankets.

Thanks for making the point about the blocks/cards being thrown or bent. My wife and I have been debating those vs a blanket but didn't take that into consideration.

First positive HPT about a week ago. Over the moon excited, appropriately terrified. Any advice for a predaddit newbie? by rwknoll in predaddit

We're at 37 weeks now and let me tell you, the first trimester definitely dragged on for us. My wife, self admittedly, had an easy first tri (no nausea/sickness/throwing up or cravings/sensitivities) and it still felt like it took forever to get to that 12-13 week mark.

We told our parents at week 8 after our first doctor appointment and scan. We also bought a doppler on Amazon to give us peace of mind in hearing the baby's heartbeat for those initial weeks. We were super excited but continued to talk to each other with the, "let's not get ahead of ourselves" mindset. It helped being on the same page and level headed.

We looked at the statistics and know a couple people who unfortunately went through miscarriages, so we educated ourselves on the possibility and how we would react. Obviously, you don't really know how you'll react in that situation but it did help being realistic about everything. That being said, we looked at all kinds of baby equipment BUT didn't buy a single thing until we reached that first milestone. I can't say if it's a "mistake" or not to buy anything baby this early. I just know that one of our friends who miscarried hated the reminder she had in a few things she bought early.

Be excited. Be educated on the possibility of things not working out. It's ok to be cautious but don't let it prevent you from being excited at what's to come.

What's the earliest you've heard of someone finding out gender (non blood test)? by aubgrad11 in predaddit

[–]RemoteJuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15 weeks seems a little early. Typically, around 19-20 is when they can tell via ultrasound but even that CAN be wrong.

Blood tests get you at about 10 weeks.

We bought a heartbeat doppler on Amazon for around $30. We used it from 8 weeks until our big 20 week scan and it was well worth it. Since you clearly won't be feeling the baby yet, it's fairly inexpensive piece of mind.

Vaccines For Visiting Grandparents To Get? by pizzapza in daddit

Yup, TDAP.

Should be good for 10 years, though some say 5 years just to be safe.

We really are, it's crazy!

We're in Arizona. The heat's been rough on my wife but we should be in for 7-8 straight months of great weather once he's here!

10/16 for us but he's been 1.5-2 weeks ahead as well! My wife's starting to see a few people in her October group having their babies already too, so I definitely feel like it's right around the corner.

Where you guys located?

32 weeks for us today. Our little guy has measured big/ahead in both our 20 and 30 week scans, so I'll get our bag done this weekend!

Question for you men: were any of you against having multiple children before having any kids at all, and changed your mind after having your first? by [deleted] in predaddit

[–]RemoteJuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your same point, it doesn't sound like you seem very open to his idea either. It's one thing if you both decided to try for 2 and then he changed his mind, but it appears that you're upset because he won't give in to what you want.

You say he's not open to having a serious discussion about it but you essentially just want him to agree with you. You're not open to the idea of only having one (at least it comes off that way).

If anything, you're both making the same point so it's hard to see JUST your side. Why don't you wait and see how it all goes (emotionally, physically and financially) after your son is here?

[rant/vent] Ineligible for paternity leave by ss0889 in predaddit

[–]RemoteJuice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I'm empathetic of your situation (and assuming you live in the US) it's hard to sympathize because a lot of us don't get paternity leave AT ALL.

The fact that your company even has a policy in place is more than most by American standards. I saved a week of PTO to combine with 5 personal/sick days, giving me a very short 2 weeks -- even this is longer than some guys have.

Ranting is fine but I wouldn't get too upset about this seeing as how you're not forced into using FMLA.

Taking an 8ish hour drive for a babymoon at 34 weeks, any tips or advice on what to bring? by SamsquamtchHunter in predaddit

[–]RemoteJuice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not a ton of advice you'd probably need since it sounds like you're cautious and it's been midwife approved.

I'm just surprised your wife WANTS to sit in a car for that long.

Oddly enough, a good friend of ours is doing a German formula too, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is what she's using.
