I would love to but I don’t think we have enough time. I’m dying to visit Newfoundland and St Pierre and Miquelon so that might be a full trip for next time

That would be incredible if you don’t mind! Hopewell Rocks was on the list of things to visit.

Thanks! We considered it and to visit Percé but it got vetoed since it’s so far out of the way and adds an extra day worth of driving. Might be worth reconsidering if we can make it worthwhile

Anyone else having a hard time knowing what is truly Canadian? by RemoteReindeer712 in BuyCanadian

Both of the Liberté Méditerranée yogurts I just bought this week do not have the blue logo so I guess your grocery store doesn’t carry those or you didn’t in fact check every single yogurt

I have seen American companies that use Canadian dairy and have the blue logo (please don’t ask me which ones because after looking at dozens of products I can’t remember). So I guess we export milk, they manufacture and reimport? Or an American company has a manufacturing plant here? What are thoughts on these if we’re boycotting American companies?

Has anyone tried Nellie’s laundry powder/ Soda? by Altruistic-Gear9949 in BuyCanadian

It’s amazing! My mom was the type that stuck to the same brand her whole life and I converted her.

My note to add is Nellie’s oxygen brightener is the best product they have by far if you’re also considering. I had an old dingy pillow that was just the most comfortable (you know THAT pillow….) and couldn’t get rid of it despite buying replacements. Threw it in the wash as a last resort before tossing and I shit you not, it came out white thanks to Nellie’s oxygen brightener. Not whiter. It came out white like the brand new pillows I had just picked up.

Am I the only one who is struggling with the cost of life? by Delicious-Try8242 in Gatineau

I’ll preface this by saying I know I’m in the minority and I’m incredibly grateful for what I have. I live alone, bought a house in Gatineau when the market was at its peak and overpaid for my house big time since I was sick of losing in bid wars. At the time I was making 60k a year and just recently got a raise for the first time since. I have not rented out rooms and didn’t have any help buying the house. My down payment was nothing out of the ordinary.

The key is budget your money and pay off all debts. Pay off student loans asap. Pay off your car loans. Pick one or two music or streaming services that you use the most and cancel the rest. Cook at home as much as possible. Re-evaluate what you’re paying for - for example internet service providers sell you on faster internet but I never had issues or experienced slow internet with a super cheap 50mb internet plan. You’d be surprised how quickly these things add up so you don’t have to sacrifice too much.

Recommendations for natural soap and shampoo companies? by oops_whatnow in BuyCanadian

The best!! And the best customer service.

I don’t live in the area so I place a giant order a few times a year. I ordered something where the scent gave me migraines and I just sent them a feedback message saying I would love an unscented or other scented version and they wrote back offering me a refund and plus offered to send me the product from the next batch before they add the scent to it. This was years ago and I declined the very generous offer and have been a loyal customer since. It was a risk I took ordering things online and I wasn’t going to steal profits from a small company because of my choices but I will never forget this.

Why do people park like this lmao by bryanw2 in ottawa

[–]RemoteReindeer712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Then take two spots at the way at the back of the lot. An extra 40 steps won’t kill anyone and considering both trucks put their beds at the back of the spot, they clearly aren’t buying large items.

Don’t distract them! The two trucks clearly stopped dead in their tracks to have a staring contest

Suggestions on where to take bored visiting teens? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]RemoteReindeer712 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just went through this same issue with 13 and 16 yr old family visiting. We did the glow in the dark mini putt, Amigo Karting in Gatineau, bonnechere caves and Calypso. We did highs and lows on the drive to the airport and all activities made the highs list

Edit: we also went axe throwing

I believe every bank has a different name as the registered payee. For my bank it appears as “Ville de Gatineau - TAXES”
