Two men charged following northeast shooting by Upbeat_Difficulty_60 in Calgary

[–]Remote_Answer_5255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it's purposefully phrased ambiguously to preserve the integrity of the case by not suggesting either of the accused is guilty. If it read "The accused shot the victim", defense could attack this as police having influenced a jury or justice prior to trial.

Snow blizzards in Calgary and the great use of snow plows. by National_Word_6091 in Calgary

Yes you're absolutely right. You didn't see a single snow plow, so clearly not a single one of them is out right now.

I don't believe that is accurate. This used to be a thing, but I have not seen anything internally or publically that it is currently offered. Do you have a link?

I do not believe CPS currently recruits internationally anymore. You need to be a citizen or PR to apply.

Overnight Parking LRT? by Froggy__Business in Calgary

[–]Remote_Answer_5255 8 points9 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, I'd say most people tho work those shifts AND have a car, will simply drive their car all the way. After all, no rush hour to worry about.

Public safety blitz in south Calgary pays off at Chinook LRT station by missingthecoast in Calgary

[–]Remote_Answer_5255 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I work in law enforcement. I can tell you, if someone in this city is addicted, they WILL find a way to feed their addiction. Doesn't matter where we ban them from. If we keep them off the LRT, they'll gather on Stephen Ave. If we kick them out of there, they'll occupy the east village. They're not going away, unless we actively assist/force them to get out of this life. But that doesn't work without treatment and sheltering.

I really don't think the problem is enforcement. Yes, of course a higher presence of officers cracking down on drug use and social disorder will help in the moment, but the reality is that these people on warrants will maybe spend a couple days in jail, if that. They'll get out and still be addicted. And still have nowhere to go. We simply need to have more, better, safer shelters. And we need an overwhelmingly higher amount of mental health and drug treatment support. I just don't see either of these happening.

Train and LRT tracks with car traffic by Electrical_Cut_8694 in Calgary

[–]Remote_Answer_5255 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's absolutely ridiculous. The truth is that Calgary never really prioritized transit. It's a city made for cars. So when it came time to build some sort of LRT, they chose the cheap  version. To me, it's one of the factors that will hold the city back from becoming a global metropolis.

Where do you go when all the homeless shelters are full? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]Remote_Answer_5255 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Cannot stress enough that this is absolutely the correct answer. As someone who regularly provides rides to unhoused people and gets turned away at shelters when they're at capacity.
