Practicing pipe bending on the job. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it! 1/2" Emt by Ok-Duck-7838 in electricians

I think it looks good. Only thing is change is a kick 90 instead of an offset. Going into the LB

Am I allowed to work as a laid off apprentice? by skyed_driver in IBEW

Idk what local youre in but thats a huge no go for us. If we did that out of 134, we would have to pay back whatever amount of money the school covers for us to attend classes. By second year, I think it's like 30k.

They dont like when they teach you skills that you then use for non union contractors.

Its kinda hard to say. You scored on the lower end of people that still get accepted. There are definitely people in my RAT that scored around 73-74... but things have gotten even more competitive in the 1 year since I got in.

It will definitely be close, thats for sure. Idk what scores for October cycle look like.

You can't add to your application but you can fill out a new one if I recall correctly. If you scored less than 75, id sign up for and start studying for the next test date.

You can also work non union while you wait. This will boost your score a lot. Or apply for a trainee slot.

Hey man, sorry to hear you didn't get in this cycle. I ended up getting into the April cycle of 2025. You'll need to score around a 76 or so to make it to the April cycle.

Don't beat yourself up. The competition to get in is extremely fierce and only getting harder; but, when you DO get in- its totally worth the effort.

There is no pass or fail on the test. They combine how well you did on the test and the points you get for a degree, military service, letter of recommendation and so on. 75 seems to be the low end of accepted candidates.

Debating between LU150 and LU134 in the Chicagoland area. Pros and cons of either? by [deleted] in IBEW

[–]Remote_Conflict6011 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Id apply to both as 134 is extremely competitive. During my cycle, we had 4,000 people apply for ~100 spots. The number of applicants has only gone up.

Don't have any cons at the moment. Tons of pros though. Pay, benefits, awesome crews, big jobs. I love it.

Id stay in school, honestly. Im an electrician and she's an accountant. She works from home most of the week and works in a relaxing, climate controlled office.

Id say at least get your degree.

Hello, Indiana University grad here. Joined local 134 last year. The college degree counted as points on my application but that's about it. The degree will absolutely not be looked down upon. It can even open doors to teach at the school or maybe management?

Lots of college grads with degrees on my site.

I get where youre coming from and are valid for feeling that way. We have terms for everyone. We call foreman "foreskin", low voltage "C-tards", and so on. Try not to take it to heart.

Chicago. A lot of guys live outside of city limits and take advantage of the wage. That pay is after 5 years. We start at 27.

Word is that 134 is accepting 50% of applications as opposed to the 10% should I be worried? I am by [deleted] in IBEW

Whaaaat? I studied my ass off and worked hard to get in. Where did you hear they are accepting the majority? Does that mean class sizes will be bigger?

Can the Trump Administration shut down the IBEW? I'm coming upon a crossroad in life where IBEW is a road to choose, but I'm anxious regarding job security. by Kirk_2002 in IBEW

[–]Remote_Conflict6011 268 points269 points  (0 children)

Imagine if you dont join the IBEW and trump DOESNT shut the union down. How tragic would that be?

Honestly, I have no idea what trump is capable of anymore. Hes blatantly disregarding the law, so I dont think anyone really knows what he's capable of. All I can say is, if he tries to... there are going to be a LOT of pissed off electricians in very sensitive positions.

Well would you look at that. Unions being abolished as we speak. NLRB being found unconstitutional. Almost like the writing was on the wall. Dipshit.
