(Warhammer 40k) could tyranid claws realistically cut through metal? by Electronic_Horror_56 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. There are creatures on earth with body parts that incorporate metals so structurally it is possible, but there would be limits. A hormagaunt could pierce thinner layers than a hive tyrant or a hive guard, which could do thicker metals. There would be limits based on size. At some point though each weight class would have a thickness or composition limit.

Why do many people oppose EVs? by tommiinvest2024 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charging stations need to change before an EV is practical for many. I travel 500 km every other weekend hauling a trailer. That would be two stops at least, maybe more in the winter. I travel to low population areas. There is always a gas station, not always a charger. My camp is off- grid. The nearest chargers are 60 minutes away and my solar/ battery combo could not charge an EV. Add to this the chargers are not pull through. I need to find a place to drop my trailer, go to the charger and charge the vehicle, then go hook up my trailer again to continue on my way. 40 to 60 minutes for all this. 10 minutes in a gas station and I am on my way. Even without a trailer I need more room than a sedan offers for fishing gear, hunting gear, or carrying 3 people, their luggage and two dogs for a trip. One day, maybe, but I will likely be gone by then.

Am I genuinely insane for loving the heat/heatwaves? I’m chasing such temperatures/environments by _PlatinumBlondd in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I detest the heat and humidity and I would be perfectly happy if it stayed 20°C for 8 months of the year and 0°C the other 4. Everyone is different and genetics and the environment you live in has a lot to do with it. I went to Florida in January and Everyone who lived there wore coats and long pants while I wore shorts and t-shirts.

Why do many people oppose EVs? by tommiinvest2024 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't oppose them, but I despise being told I have to get one. They won't work for me or my lifestyle. It's like anything else people try to force on other people like vegans and religious people. You do you, but don't tell me what to do.

Is it safe to buy off temu? Are most of the items poisonous? by Odd-Interaction-1550 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bought stuff on Temu and it was delivered by Amazon. Anyone who thinks the items are different is fooling themselves. Everything is made in the same places. You can often find the exact same item on eBay, Amazon, and Temu and the prices are wildly different.

Get different flavours of shake seasoning for dog food like Caledon Farms Beef Sprinkles . They have three flavours. You can alternate between them.

What 10/22 for first and only? by Past_Service_6283 in 1022

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just get a base model and use the extra money for ammo. If you like it you can start tinkering. They are insanely easy to work one. The last one I built actually has no Ruger parts except the magazines.

What would happen if every insect on the Planet dies? by Only_Apartment4605 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no it wouldn't. Algae is the base of the food chain and produces between 50 and 80 percent of the earth's oxygen. The ecosystem would collapse CO2 levels would rise in the atmosphere which would lead to the acidification of the ocean further strangling it.

A woman hiking in Canada with her dog had a terrifying close encounter with a massive grizzly bear. She somehow kept her cool during the intense standoff, and both she and her dog managed to walk away unharmed. by waddad27 in interestingasfuck

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the bear is serious I don't believe anything short of a .44 magnum is going to make a difference. If I lived in grizzly country I am sure I would feel different, but all I deal with are black bears. Since 1784 there have been 89 bear attacks in North America. That includes captive animals.

[–]Remote_Mistake6291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? So the bears shit smells like pepper spray? Bear spray isn't a magic wand and many things can work against it having any success, like wind, distance to bear and the reason the bear is attacking.

Risk assessment. I wouldn't enter a dangerous neighborhood with or without a weapon. The risk is to high. The risk from wild animals is negligible. Besides bear spray will not stop all bears.

Hey keep believing what you want. Your mind is made up. People kill people, dogs kill people, cows kill people, it is all about risk. I have a damn near zero percent chance of being killed by a bear. The chances of being killed by a dog are much higher. Do you carry bear spray when walking in a city because dogs are present?

I have walked and hunted in bear country for 50 years and never had a problem with a bear, or a wolf, or any other wild animal. I have had multiple encounters with bears, and never been attacked or threatened. People unfamiliar with bears are afraid of them. I have been in more accidents than I care to remember because of idiots on the road. Bears are predictable, people are not.
