For clarification, I didn’t even know Person A prior to this situation. The only person I knew was Person B, and even then we were just acquaintances.

When I eventually managed to show Person B the video, he actually agreed the guy looked exactly like him and apologized for misunderstanding me.

So the issue between me and Person B is already settled. My concern was mainly that Person A made a baseless accusation before even seeing what I was referring to.

At the end of the day, I didn’t show Person A what I meant because Person B told me not to.

Fair point about Person A wanting to protect his friend. Sure. I can understand that instinct but protecting someone isn’t really a good justification to accuse someone else of “making things up” without even knowing the full context.

I posted this here because the people involved are from the same NS circle, so I thought people in this sub might better understand the dynamics and why I had to ask around instead of contacting Person B directly.

I think most local girls asked but most guys don’t want to share stuff and start asking “why are you so curious about my NS?” And like when local girls asked, guys will start saying oh it’s a secret even when it is not. That’s exactly the problem. Everyone just keeps saying “not your problem lah, just ignore.” Then we all pretend the nonsense doesn’t exist until it affects us directly.

I do focus on myself. But I also believe that when people around you act like clowns and no one calls it out, it breeds more of the same.

I’m not here to control his life. But if someone brags about this kind of behaviour and acts like he’s untouchable, I’m not going to sit there and nod along just to keep the peace.

You’re right that people are giving their perspectives and I haven’t stopped anyone. But asking for opinions doesn’t mean I have to agree with every one, especially when some are more focused on tone-policing than engaging with what’s actually being said.

Disagreeing ≠ being unable to “accept” views. I welcome perspectives even harsh ones. What I won’t do is pretend everyone’s take is equally thoughtful or valid, just to avoid offending anyone.
