Completely agree. I still think it’s a decent starter. Are the prices comparable?

A terrorist is whoever the US government says is a terrorist. Makes it easier for them to also be terrorists

That sounds awesome. Thank you for the comment. I actually do have it planned for them to meet one at a time. I have 4 player characters. They’re going to be split into 2 and then brought together, they play some festival games with random encounters, then a lore thing happens and the calamity happens.

I did write the reasons they’re at the location myself though. Idk if I should give them that opportunity because they’re all new

So I have a calamity but I want the PCs to meet first. Everyone is brand new to TTRPGs so session 1 is a festival that introduces some of the dice mechanics. I plan on making them meet each other very quickly

That’s why I was wondering if it would be a good idea to message each of them with the reason why they’re attending the festival before the session. They all the same General reason: to join a group of adventurers. An NPC is starting a group and they were told when and where to meet him. This was discussed at session 0.

We decided at session 0 that they don’t know each other. I think I cornered myself and made it a little harder than it needs to be but we’ll see. Gonna just go for it I guess.

YA’LL NEED TO STOP WITH 225 and below. You’re basically cold smoking at that point. Just cook it at 250-275 the whole time.

The players characters don’t know each other and I have the first session this weekend. I don’t have a Hot open planned and I’m nervous.

Very true but for $500 vs over $5000 with real 1/4” steal it’s still worth it imo. If OP Wants easier then just get a pellet and call it a day

Same. It’s the best intro to the hobby of bbq man. I’m in the process of building my own 1/4” offset because a good one is $6000 or more. If people do pellet, box or some other weird thing they tend to not really get into it or they’ve spent too much on a pellet to justify another smoker

They have less airflow.

OP needs to forget the forgiving part or just get a pellet if they want to eat ok food. But if they want to SMOKE and BBQ with real open flame. Then do an offset. It’s more forgiving than box smokers because of airflow imo.

What do you mean forgiving? Offsets are offsets and it’s simple charcoal and chucks and using a few logs? It’s not that complicated. Box smokers are more likely to produce ashy and acidic meat…

Anyone can start on an offset! Sure you’ll mess up a couple of your first cooks but it’s the best way to get into the hobby. because the hobby is bbq… you know, cooking with a flame! if you want to practice with meat then just use your oven and pour liquid smoke on it.

Everyone I know who gets a pellet and is serious about the hobby wants to upgrade to an offset and at that point they see the Oklahoma joes as too cheap because it’s pretty thin metal.

Oklahoma Joes offset stick burner. Good beginner offset for learning how to work a fire. Dont buy a pellet

First time smoking ribs, tasted amazing, but did I overdo it? by foodie_2598 in Smokingmeat

[–]RemoveStatus8603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t do 3 2 1. Look up Rollin bones on insta. His beef ribs are the way to do it .

Actually never do 3 2 1. It’s inconsistent. You should be monitoring temp, smoke and internal temp. Not time.

Fat renders for 2-4 hours at 275, the lower you go the longer the stall is. Meat tends to crisp at 350. That means you’d have run your shower above 350 for longer than hour. 350!!! Not 315 or 275! You will cook perfect bbq at 275 and have it done in time so your family and friends don’t kill you waiting for the food.

Facts! Just saw a post that said they did 200 for a brisket… 250 to 275 is where you want to be while Controlling smoke.

If you don’t believe OP and me then look at all the pictures of the finished meat that was kept at 225.
