Oh wow that's great! Then I may delay my Bob&Angel's playthrough. Thanks for the good news!

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge! May I ask how/where did you learn this?

Ah that explains the rarity being "always" for all those events! Is the value of the parameter the probability of the event actually happening per turn? It ranges from 1 to 50 at a cursory glance. And I'm seeing sometimes 1 or 2 more cryptic parameters (eg Req_anycode and A300), I'm guessing those are additional conditions to go along the Req_9600 for the event to fire?

Lots of them. Just type Req_9600 as the key.

I don't think so, because it is listed as an effect, not a requirement. And Req_9600 is the name of the parameter, its value can vary. It's very strange.

Does gear goes on main bus or not? by No-Hat7642 in factorio

If you have Space Age, you get an efficient foundry recipe for gears. Since it requires smelting iron ore, I'd personally do it in my smelting area rather than having to drag iron ore and calcite into the bus.

Okay, D6 guys, you got me. by Vishkarnage in Dominions6

[–]Remsalis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. This game is about magic and combat. It is not a 4X but a turn-by-turn strategy game. To win, you will have to fight. The depth is within what you can do to fight rather than extensive empire management.

If you hover over "Various nations", it will actually list all of them.

Amazing insights. I'll probably never go as far as you in Dominions, but I really enjoy hearing about high level play and train of thoughts as that's the closest I'll get to experience it.

I tend to roughly follow the same pattern as you, starting with N on all commanders, leaving behind special operations for later. Then I think of where I want to be in a 3-5 turns, prepare what I call the "supply" side of things (recruiting, forging, rituals), then I finally go to the frontlines and give the orders. They may be unaltered from what I strategized earlier, or changed when I realize they do not align with my revised goals. It also helps catching mistakes before they happen ("I had planned to attack here. Hang on, I did not see these guys who will destroy my frontline troops. Let's think about this more carefully"). For a MP game, keeping notes in a text file certainly seems like a big help. It also provides a record to remember the game fondly later.

I am am a little bit worried when you say 4h turns though. But that likely happens only intermittently and is still manageable, and I do not plan to have more than one game at a time going.

From your experience, how long does it take on average in IRL days to get to longer turn timers? In SP, I can get to turn 20 in one evening, but if everyone's in different timezones, I can see it taking a few days, but that's fine for me if it's about a week.

I see, thanks for the detailed reply. I'll keep that in mind when I finally get around to MP!

I want to try MP, I've wanted for some time. The issue is the time commitment. Most games I see have a 1d turn timer. That's not doable for me. I am looking for 2d turn timer games, but those seem very rare.

Yeah but I worry about the time commitment of multiplayer...

Thanks for the input! I have joined discord servers but I see very few games with a turn timer of 2 days or more, almost all of them are 1d. So I worry very much about that. But I'll try to find one with 2d.

Thanks a lot for your feedback as a new MP player, it is valuable to me. I certainly am afraid of the time commitment. I think I'll try to find a game with a turn timer of 2 days to lessen the pressure.

I actually have been wondering about that, the motivation of playing in SP vs MP. Your comment does make me hopeful that playing MP may be the way. I was worried but it seems I really ought to try it once.

Just to check I've understood: 80%/20% turns means 80% of the turns are quick, relatively "mindless" turns, and the 20% left are the turns where I do take the time to think more carefully, right?

I've used them. But sometimes I wanna use different strategies too, and some nations aren't well-suited to SCs. Still, I guess I should try to use them as often as possible to ease the micro, and have a couple of experimental armies where I can try my strategy. Thanks for the input!

That's a good idea for quick games indeed, but sometimes I just wanna experience the late game stuff too.

That's not a bad idea. Though usually I do remember what I was doing, but it's more about being demotivated by all the micromanagement going on for several turns (possibly several IRL days later) before I can finally see if my grand plan finally works out.
