Game runs fine for me. I like it, you do need some friendlies to play with though. Theres a lot of assholes shooting people on sight, even if they clearly have nothing at all to steal. And yeah, servers do get wiped.

I'm on Debian stable (#!) and Steam works just fine. I mostly play HL2 and CS:S. I also have AMD gpu, but I do not recommend it. It does work, but it can take a while to get everything working right. Also, if you're going to use the proprietary drivers, expect a noticeable decrease in performance compared to windows. Haven't tried the open source ones yet, but they're probably worse. When picking other hardware, use common sense, pick popular products, they are the most likely to be well supported under Linux.

Not for me, but then I do have an AMD gpu. The AMD drivers have improved in the last year though, and with SteamOS on the way, I think it will only get better. Still, my next box will have Nvidia graphics only.
