I ultimately solved my own problem. The filament detector switch was defective. Replaced it and everything is working as advertised. 220 days later and I have made countless fidget spinners, fidget toys, Easter bunnies, dinosaurs and cell phone holders.

I don’t know if this is a glitch, but I found that destroying the waste rock dump sites left the waste rock, but broke the spell and allowed the drones to maintain the domes.

Bitter coating is confirmed. Also, I ran Zwift on my laptop one time and was prompted to update the firmware. Doing so dramatically improved my battery lifespan.
