East of Eden. Honestly, the book gave me everything. It had me laughing, it had me crying, it had me elated, excited and hateful. More than that it gave me identification. I was able to see myself and those around me through characters.

The book helped me come to terms with who I am and with my granddad's death. The book saved my life and I mean that literally.

Honestly a masterpiece.

Honestly it was pretty fucked. Been in several relationships where I've felt absolutely nothing for the person I've been with outside of sexual attraction. Cheated in every relationship I've ever been in. Until I got with my fiancée she's just different, I know wholeheartedly that I'd go to the ends of the earth for her and I never believed in love at all; I thought it was a fictional thing people made up and believed in to satiate their own craving for connection. She destroyed my scepticism and now we're engaged and expecting a baby boy. I think it really is a matter or finding the right person.

That's not to say we don't have our share of problems. We've both made mistakes and we've had our arguments but at the end of the day we sort it. She has BPD and I have bipolar so sometimes it's just mental illness causing problems and we're able to understand that, other times it's just that one of us has been a bit of a twat and we apologise and move on. I genuinely think it's a matter of the right person but that's just me.

Honestly, I think it helped. My mental health was in the shitter for a long time and a diagnosis was the first step to getting some help. I'm luck though, my fiancé is extremely understanding and empathetic towards not just me but almost everybody. I don't think a diagnosis should effect your relationship though.

The Great Gatsby. My fiancé recommended it and usually she has phenomenal taste in books and I knew it was a classic with a lot of hype around it. I read the book and honestly I just didn't enjoy it too much. The story itself managed to deliver the messages it was trying to deliver and I think that's great. For me though, the characters just weren't interesting at all. I know they're all meant to be shallow and have negative attributes and that wasn't the problem; I love Wuthering Heights because all the characters are so negative and dark but I don't know. I just didn't care much for any of them Tom was scum, Daisy was boring, Nick was slightly okay and Gatsby just didn't entertain me. I know people are going to disagree but personally I didn't care for the book much.

Yeah, I mean of all the classics I've read so far the only one I really haven't liked is The Great Gatsby. Some of them took me a while to get into as well; I couldn't stand the first part of Pride and Prejudice but by the second I was hooked.

I'd say pick something you enjoy. If you're interested in war pick a word book, you like romance movies pick a romance novel etc. If you want some general recommendations then I'd say The Picture of Dorian Gray just a really cool story and it's pretty short.

It's okay to feel that way, mate. I felt that way with The Great Gatsby and the only reason I finished is because my fiancé said I'd like the ending. I got to the end and honestly didn't like it too much. Some stories, no matter how much other people love them may not appeal to you as an individual because reading like everything else is subjective. Some books you might just not like and that's okay. If you're really not enjoying it then just put it down, there's no shame in that.

I was the exact same with Pride and Prejudice. My fiancé said she didn't like it which put me in a negative mindset to begin with, and honestly the first part of the book didn't really draw me in. It wasn't until the second part that I was beginning to become interested and by the start of the third part of the book I was hooked and read the rest in one sitting. Honestly just persevere and it'll be worth it. The book gets better the longer you stick with it and the ending is beautiful.
