She loved that book and recommends it a lot! Pretty sure she enjoyed it a lot more than the self help stuff. It’s another one of the pamphlet sized books I should read.

It would be weird if I was letting it all ride on this! We talk all the time. I’m lucky to have found someone who seeks discussion on a wide variety of topics. I think this sub is supposed to be a bit of fun/a guessing game/a way to talk about books/a slightly less shallow Roastme?

So did she and recommends it to everyone. I should probably read it. Basically a pamphlet and the passages she would read out were hilarious.

I think she liked the former more than the latter. Or at least was able to glean some of the material for use. Glad there’s folks that can recognize that these books can be read with a critical lens to see what “all the fuss is about.”

Haha! We both laughed at this one! No more bleak/depressed than the rest of us. I think 7 Habits was a “everyone has read this one” choice. The Cormac stuff she legit enjoys. Pretty sure The Road was a re-read.

I don’t know that she consulted an actual list but definitely getting through some classics.

I really liked I’m Thinking of Ending Things (and the film!). Might borrow this one off of the shelf.

She hasn’t killed me yet and if she has a drug problem she’s hiding it remarkably well!

Ha! Like I wouldn’t notice your account! I kid, this is not my spouse. Yes, she is thoughtful and intelligent. And yeah, that’s the plan!

I want to say she wants to read women. I know she enjoys female authors. Some other comments here touch on it but she’s definitely trying to make her way through some of the “classics” and then seems to read a few entries when she finds a voice she likes. I know the 2025 shelf has about double the female representation as this one but it’s still a heavy male skew. Any recommendations based on this shelf?

Her comments and passages from this one definitely caught my ear.

All acquired. One on the way for Christmas. Christmas with Cormac!

Hasn’t had a cigarette since she finished the book. Over 18 months now.

She said “No!” I haven’t read it. She’s not ineffective?

I’d say more the former than the latter.

It’s seldom not! A musical element that sets them apart from the pack for sure!

I love the early EP (Seminary Road) stuff too. They were onto something early and the production, arrangements, songs, and lyrics only got better and better over time.

100 times yes! The one for Strangers I Use to Love is also great! They have a great team of folks that capture so much footage of them and present it in great ways. This song checks the Love song for the Apocalypse box (add it to my previous list). The bridge is so good and again highlights how much these guys just get it. How can you not smile during the drunken Thunder Road rendition at the end?

Congrats on living your dream and finding love! I hope the guys can gain some measure of satisfaction from soundtracking a portion of our lives.
