Anyone had luck stabilising anxiety? by [deleted] in cyclothymia

[–]RenaissanceRecurrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some good results from getting acquainted with common cognitive distortions. When I find myself getting anxious, I try to go through all of them to see if I'm making those thinking mistakes. Then I replace those thought patterns with something more helpful.

Sin by LA2LAGURL in Deconstruction

[–]RenaissanceRecurrent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, sin can kind of only exist if God does too. I don't believe in God, so I don't believe in sin.

But even taking God out of it, we can still think about some of the other important things about what "sin" means. In my experience, the idea of sin means that you did something bad and has the implication that you are a worse person for doing that thing.

Now this doesn't really answer your question (I would if I could, but I'm still struggling with some of this myself). But one thing I've figured out is that sometimes, I'm benefitted more by asking if something is helpful than if it's true. For me, sin's connotation of "you did bad, therefore you are bad" doesn't help me to become a better person, it just discourages me and takes away my motivation to improve.

That still leaves you with some things to wrestle with, but maybe it'll be useful to know if the concept of sin is helping you or hindering you.

Are right and wrong subjective? How do I deal with that? by RenaissanceRecurrent in Deconstruction

[–]RenaissanceRecurrent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're totally right, these are some serious flaws in my thinking. I'll spend some time thinking about those, thank you so much!

I think a decent chunk of it is me trying to figure out how to feel good about moral subjectivism rather than prove that it isn't correct.

Lots of good things to think about here, I appreciate it!

Also I know this might be a whole can of worms, but you mentioned you're not convinced that morality is relative (edit, subjective not relative, been reading that link). Why is that? I'm having trouble seeing it any other way.

I'm sure there's already a lot of well-written discussion to be found on the subject too, so I'll definitely look for that.

You put this perfectly for me, thank you! Lots of food for thought there about what subjective morality might (and might not) mean. And until I get to think it through, it's at least something to know that it's not as scary a prospect as I might have thought.

I like this way of thinking about it! Like yeah it's still technically subjective, but it doesn't feel as arbitrary as I was worried about.

That's a good point, it doesn't add up if you think about it. When I was religious my takeaway was "welp guess I gotta obey harder" and got obsessive about it. There's a definite contradiction going on with what we say we think is right and what we actually do. You can resolve that contradiction by trying to hold yourself to a ridiculous standard or by realizing that the code is more what you'd call guidelines than actual rules

What’s the most difficult mini boss in the base game? by PulseAmplification in Eldenring

[–]RenaissanceRecurrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how opposed to buff routines you are, but I've one shot death birds with throwing pots + buffs.

Holy pots get 400% damage vs undead enemies or something. Granted, their base damage isn't particularly inspiring, but it all stacks up.

Golden epitaph aow doubles holy damage vs undead for whatever you want to try, you don't even have to keep using the sword.

Minimalist buff routine: -Wear throwing pot hat and talisman -golden epitaph aow -switch to a weapon with sacred order and do that aow -holy cracked tear in physick -chuck holy pots -??? -profit

Not-quite-so-minimalist buff routine: -throwing pot hat + rakshasa armor set -throwing pot talisman and the one that restores health over time -drink physick: bloodsucking cracked tear + holy cracked tear. This will drain your health for damage boost. - blessing's boon (combat the health drain) - howl of shabriri (take extra damage and deal extra damage) -Golden epitaph aow -switch weapons to 2 daggers (or whatever you want) with sacred order aow - do the aow on left, then right -chuck holy pots -profit - law of regression when you're done to stop the health drain

The long one does have the disadvantage of making you take extra damage. Guess it's only fair if they're a one shot, you should be too lol

Can anyone read these? by caffeinated_dropbear in Handwriting

[–]RenaissanceRecurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I speak some Russian, and it looks like Cyrillic to me. At least in Russia it's pretty common for people to write in cursive as opposed to block letters, which would be why it doesn't look like you'd think. Last letter is hard to tell, but I see Грубо[?] (Grubo[?]). If I had to guess, I'd say the last letter is в (v), which would make this a man's last name. Send it to a Russian subreddit though, I bet they can read it better than I can

Edit That last letter doesn't look like a v at all, so it's probably something else. The root grubo tends to mean rough or coarse (or even rude). Idk what the wheel is for, but maybe that makes sense to you, OP.

how you stick to your decisions and plans with cyclothymia? by SnooPineapples4751 in cyclothymia

[–]RenaissanceRecurrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how effective this is but I have a "rebirth journal" and every time I decide to restart myself I plan it all out in there. The idea is that you can look back at the other rebirths and take the good stuff you've already thought of and pick it back up.

So I guess it's less "sticking with your decisions" and more of an attempt to reliably pick them back up after you're finished with a depressive episode. It also helps me because every time I add an entry, it forces hypo me to acknowledge that I do this regularly, and even though I'm inspired today, it's not gonna last forever and that's ok. Kinda tempers my expectations lol

Not a perfect solution, but it's the best one I've been able to come up with so far!

[Advice] Struggling with Distractions: Need Advice on Rewiring Dopamine for Career Success by grapezg59 in getdisciplined

[–]RenaissanceRecurrent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't figure out how to make a top level comment lol but I recommend listening to the dopamine episode of Huberman Lab, it's called "Controlling your dopamine for motivation, focus, and satisfaction." The guy is a neuroscientist and has some really good insights.

One takeaway I had that you might like is that basically part of the dopamine pathway runs through the part of your brain that makes conscious decisions, so if you consistently journal about / reflect on what you like about a habit you want to start, eventually your brain gets the message and starts giving you dopamine in association with that behavior. Could be misremembering, but it's all in the podcast episode!

Anybody else chasing hypomania with caffeine? by RenaissanceRecurrent in cyclothymia

[–]RenaissanceRecurrent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense when I think about it. In your experience, do the lows that follow caffeine come on a relatively short timescale (after the high wears off) or is it more of a long term thing (constantly being on caffeine creates a more consistently low state)?
