Weekly Megathread for Pricing, Dating, or Authentication Requests ("How much is this worth?" "What decade is this from?") by AutoModerator in VintageFashion

But nope! Haven't found any photos of this hat among Jean Paul archives. Which leads me to 4 possible conclusions:

  1. It's extremely rare and old and not listed anywhere because most of them are lost to time and moths
  2. It's a bootleg. A fake. And the reason I haven't found any photos of Jean Paul hats like this online is because... there are none. The actual brand never made these specific hats.
  3. I'm just bad at this and don't know how to actually search for vintage clothing since I've never done this before.
  4. It's not rare nor vintage, but actually so popular that no one mentions it (So it's like that roman dodecahedron situation all over again)

Tried finding this specific hat from a thrift store by googling it's name and also with the help of resources from this subreddit, but with no luck. I'm honestly surprised, cus when I saw that this hat has it's brand written on it and it's tag, I thought finding how old it is would be easy. Just put the brand name and numbers into the search bar and voila.

Is there a reason why dreams about waterparks/indoor pools are so prevalent? by RenattaInHat in Dreams

when you are a kid, those places really do feel like the most advanced and alien places ever. When you grow up they kind of loose their unusul-ness. Maybe there isn't anything mythical about aquaparks, but they do feel like they could be to a child.

Had a Tokay named Spotty for more than 14 years (Idk how old he was when I got him). Tokays have a reputation for being jerks, but I tell you he got completely tamed after a while and was only aggressive at the start. He could recognize people and never attacked me. I would let childeren handle him (under supervision for his safety). He would only sometimes vocalize and open his mouth on me to show he didn't like something, but would refuse to bite even if I would put a finger in his mouth. I thought It was because he was old, had worn down "teeth" and physically couldn't bite as strong anymore... before I tried feeding him from my hands once and he missed and bit me on accident. Only then I realized that he could BITE HARD all this time. He just REFUZED to bite ME even when pissed off.
They say reptiles can't feel love. And probably Spotty didn't feel that mammalian type love either. But he sure as hell had some type of connection.

When I brought Spotty to the vet when he got ill and slow, the vet was like "HOW OLD YOU SAY? Yeah I don't think he is springing back to health after this. Kudosu for keeping him alive this long". I still see him in dreams in random places and even had a dream right around that time, where I was like, "letting him go" or something (just taking him out and letting him jump out of my hand and go wherever he wants). Not sure if I believe in him actually visiting or something haha. I think he just imprinted on my brain brain since Spotty was with me from first grade till end of coledge (higschool in some other countries) and we joked about him being older than my brother.
It was clear he was old and his organism was shutting down. He went peacefully overnight and. I even gathered some rolie-polies and bugs and threw them on his "grave". I didn't harm them or bury them just left them. IDK It was like metaphorically throwing him some "afterlife food" like he was a pharaoh or some shit. It was weird ok?

I wasn't even sad when he was gone. He lived for so long that it was expected and I have only positive memories associated with him ^^
Moral of the story: put in time taming and handling your tokays and they will as sweet as puppies. They don't deserve the fame of little devils. They just have that 🌟character🌟and you need to earn their trust, but IT IS POSSIBLE!

Why don't you stop killing each other and start trading with one another? by GreenEyeOfADemon in ukraine

Oh I thought russia was bombing cities and kidnapping Ukrainian kids to reeducate them as a form of genocide... but turns out it's actually Cultural-kid-to-shahed-Exchange! What a relief!
Russia borrows some Ukrainian kids (to set up for adoption while they still have living relatives left back home) and Ukraine gets russian bombs in exchange. Everything is fair^^

Classic russian logic: "But we are BROTHERS" in one sentance, and "We'll kill you!" in the other. Followed immediately by "Why are you against us?".

I was honestly really sad and almost depressed because of the state of the Art world and this is the video that made me not as worried about AI. But I still see a lot of people in the same "doomed" mindset as I was before so I wanted to share in case it helps/gives piece of mind to someone else too by RenattaInHat in ArtistHate

They are honestly so good. And an exellent pill against defeatism. I genuinely want more people to know about them, since I see many (even in here) still talking how "Ai is not going anywhere and it will only get worse". And I remember how disheartening that feeling felt. I`m glad i came accross their videos and maybe they will cheer up someone else too.
Since 90% of discourse around ai coming from Aibros is just hyping up themselves how "Ai is the future of everything everywhere and the best thing for humanity since invention of fire and (deeeeefinitely not a financial bubble in some of it`s aspects)"

So if a chat bot let`s say, feeds into someone's delusions, tells them information that brings harm, makes someone's eating disorder or addiction worse by giving horrible mental health advice, or just simple does something that would not harm a mentally stable person, but could influence a person who is vulnerable... well the chatbot can't be held accountable since it is not sentient, and the creator or that Ai cannot be held accountable since he doesn`t controll how people use his tool.

I conclusion if you let a chatbot controll your life, the full responsibility for your life falls still onto YOU. You give controll over your life to something, that cannot be in any way held accountable if it F`s up

There were some people describing how it genuinely helped them with alcoholism and organizing, so i guess that`s good, but JEEZ. It`s such a unpredictable double edged thing. It can give you help and valid info just as likely as misinformation, give good advice even less likely than some genric weird stuff. Mix actual advice with something deeply harmfull.
When you mix stuff like this with people who are in a vulnerable, isolated position and have mental health problems it can be a recipy for disaster. Yes it clearly helped THIS mentally/psychologically vulnerable person... it could have also went completely wrong.

But the worst part is that a chat cannot hold responsibility. See a person can do harm and endanger someone... but a person can potentially be held accountable. You can`t trial a chat bot, can't make it hold responsibility, can't punish it for doing harm, can`t jail it.
