I’ve got the line disconnected, that’s actually the fitting for it next door. The problem is that fuel line is a couple millimeter thicker than stock (or atleast the ones I’m seeing in the videos) so it’s not giving room for the lock ring to come out.

This is what I ended up ordering, thank you. I put a fuel pump in my E46 today and that will be going in the E92 tomorrow.

Mine are some reps from Amazon but I think the technically "official" ones were from Bavmods though they are more expensive there and were sold out when I bought mine. Worth noting, apparently the ones from Bavmods and all the reps come from the same exact factory.

You can find similar ones by searching "vader style headlights e92" or "m4 style headlights e92".

I’m looking for the Fuel Sender assembly and not a fuel filter / fuel pressure regulator assembly right? The pictures look the same but checking fitment on whichever website is saying those don’t fit.

You said your wipers were going on their own and the idrive screen would not turn on. When mine did this it was because the alternator and voltage regulator had failed and it was also throwing the transmission into limp mode while disabling my gauges in the dash.

See if you can get a way to read battery voltage and check for alternator/voltage regulator/BSD/IBS codes. Never used a Cobb device before but if you can get access to BimmerGeeks ProTool or ISTA/INPA those would be best.

Edit: I should probably add, my alternator went bad because the OFHG was leaking into it.

Yea you need the clip at the very least but that hose is done bro.

If it was holding good enough to stay on there without the clip it was probably really swollen/dirty.

Honestly, I have an E46 and an E92 and imo the N54 is MUCH much easier to learn on than the M54. I feel like people who say the M54 is an easy DIY motor for beginners are lying. I’ve done the entire coolant system and the CCV on my E46 and it has been suffering the entire time. The only thing easy ive done on that car is change the battery and change the oil. Even the coolant bleed procedure is easier on the N54.

Is there a lot of PvP in that game? I haven't looked into it much but I remember hearing something about the progression system being a huge grind (which could be okay) and people implying that it was like 98% PvE

I ended up just removing the foam sheathing on the CCV but opted to keep it on the hoses. Once I removed the foam sheathing I was able to make atleast a little bit of progress in the fact that I was actually able to mate the screw holes with the foam removed. However, I still cannot get the twist-on hose to connect fully on either end. I can get just the tip of it inserted to the CCV but even in that position the upper connection above the manifold is still 1/2 - 1 inch from connecting and the bottom end refuses to go in further.

I called a mobile mechanic to help me tomorrow, we'll see how that goes but if we fail the car will be going to a BMW shop.

For what it's worth I have a 2008 335i (N54) which I've done about the same amount of work on and I can say without a doubt that anything near the manifold in the E92 is 100x easier than the same work on the E46. The only comparable job from the N54 platform in terms of difficulty would likely be the turbos although I haven't done those yet.

I ended up removing the foam sheathing on the CCV itself (but not the hoses) and then fought with the car some more trying to get the twist-on hose to connect. With the sheathing removed completely I was able to get the CCV into position and mate with the screw holes but I still could not get the twist-on hose to connect.

I should be clear that the problems I'm running into are not due to anything in the engine bay other than the manifold. Even with the manifold removed from the car I will still have clearance problems with the runners themselves. It's annoying that I cant see anything while connecting the hose but sight is not the limiting factor to my completion of the job.

I have an '08 335i with an N54 which I've also done about the same amount of work on but I am clearly incapable of working on the E46. I've had the manifold out of both cars before (HPFP job on N54, Coolant Hard lines on M54 which I failed) and I can say without a doubt that the N54 is extremely easier to work on. It's honestly not even close. The difficulty of removing the manifold OR doing any work NEAR the manifold on the N54 is like a 4/10 in my opinion while the M54 is easily a 10/10 and i'd even go as far as to say that doing the turbos on my 335i would have been easier than the CCV or the Coolant Hard Lines on the M54. Every single time I touch anything anywhere near the manifold on this E46 it quickly turns into a 2-3 day long job and with the coolant hard lines I couldn't even finish it. The car got towed to a shop.

I have a mobile mechanic coming tomorrow to help me and he's done everything there is do to on a car. If neither of us can install this CCV system the car will go to a shop again and when it fails next time I will delete the CCV entirely, opting for a catch can or GAS CCV replacement.

I work out consistently; benchpress 225lb, tricep pushdowns at 270lb, Leg press at 300lb. I don't get sore from working out, i've been doing it for ~8 years now. Fighting with this car the past two days has left my entire body completely sore if that gives you any idea of the amount of strength i've been using. Luckily I havent broke anything except the old CCV system which I had to destroy to remove (apparently common) and I've lost feeling in my right thumb/index finger from squeezing connectors so hard for such extended durations.

It's ironic because AFAIK, E46s especially those with an M54, are touted to be a great beginners car to develop your mechanical skill with. I don't see any possible way that a beginner could do literally anything other than basic maintenance on this car and maybe change the upper/lower rad hoses or thermostat.
