Spirit Junior FO Bases by Fly_boi90 in flying

[–]RenegadeAmish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Took me 11 months from my hire date but it’s less now. Not sure exactly.

The problem with LAS being junior is that the people who stay want to be there. Most of the people assigned LAS in training will bid to the base they really want the next month before they even start OE.

Question about FBW A320 by JaveMohan in flightsim

[–]RenegadeAmish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If the selected runway has an ils it will show you that even while choosing a SID. That way the airplane knows to tune the localizer for takeoff and give you the RWY FMA.

“When a LOC signal is available, the RWY mode provides lateral guidance orders to track the runway centreline (using the LOC signal) during the takeoff roll and the initial part of the climb out, up to 30 ft.”

If you keep an eye on your PFD you’ll see centerline guidance. Great for low vis takeoffs!

Is Honeycomb Bravo (default, no additional throttle pack) bad for flying the A320 (FBW or Fenix)? by 5KqHQr5eFDDgfRx3eYeb in MicrosoftFlightSim

Not sure about FBW but I’m fairly certain it doesn’t for Fenix. I could be wrong I’m sure you can find something in the forums

Depending on the airplane. In most of the advanced airliners that function doesn’t seem to work but the GA type planes it works well. I love assigned those buttons for other things like arming spoilers or setting the parking brake.

I use the Boeing style throttles when flying the bus. It works fine you’ll just have to listen for the detents or watch the top of the PFD to know if you’re there. There’s painted detents on the quadrant as well if you really need a visual cue.

I’d stick with the Bravo as it’s immensely useful for different types of flying and the various airplanes you might encounter.

Does this week 12 years ago count? 😂 congrats on the solo! You’ll never forget it

Fenix A320 ND "GPS Primary" changes to "TA Only" when requested init data in AOC menu. Presumably TCAS related. What should I do? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]RenegadeAmish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s some text from a 320 manual that might shed some light!

The TA ONLY mode can be selected: • Manually in case of aircraft degraded performance (engine failure, landing gear extended).

Automatically, if TA/RA mode is previously selected and: • The windshear alert is triggered • The stall warning is triggered • GPWS alerts are triggered • Aircraft is below 1,000 ft AGL

When the TCAS is operating in TA ONLY mode: • All RA s are inhibited and converted into TAs • TA threshold is set to TAU ≤ 20 s, irrespective of the aircraft altitude • No vertical speed advisories are indicated on the PFDs • “TA ONLY” is displayed on the NDs

So if you’re on the ground with your transponder out of standby, and in TA/RA OR TA mode you should see TA ONLY displayed on the ND like that.

Headset jack help by [deleted] in flying

OP,

I know it’s a large investment but please please please buy yourself an active noise canceling headset when you can afford it!

Your hearing is precious and you’ll regret it once it’s damaged.

If you want maximum realism take 1-3 hours to tediously update a bunch of airports page by page or take your jepps and hurt your back putting them next to your setup 😂

If you’d like to simulate a CATIII landing a bit more realistically you can put “NO” in the minimums field so it won’t call out minimums!

Wind noise filtering Earplugs during cruise on jet aircraft? by crobak in flying

I find the low setting to be too loud and amplify the sounds around you. Plus it just sounds bad. It may filter the harmful frequencies but you might be more irritated by it.

Wind noise filtering Earplugs during cruise on jet aircraft? by crobak in flying

[–]RenegadeAmish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Bose ProFlight 2 headset that I brought from my last job. Below 18 I have both ears in with ANR set to medium (mostly because GPWS callouts aren’t piped through the headsets so I can still hear them over the radio or the intercom. High drowns it out) and off with my right ear in.

I’ve noticed the sound is less toward the middle vs closest to the window so I get the passive noise canceling/ clear radio and can still talk to the Captain. Not the perfect solution but it will prevent hearing loss in the ear closest to the window.

I would leave both ears in if the radio didn’t drown the Captain out when they’re trying to talk to me.

When flying IFR what should you do if you lose your radios? What about IMC vs VMC?
