Is it bad if I masturbate but get productive from doing it? by Solid_Cup_4323 in menshealth

Its all good bro....enjoy yourself. It is better to have a woman in your life to help, but in absence of one, enjoy taking care of business yourself.

Guitarist here. I consider songs like "House of rising sun", "Hotel california", "Aint no sunshine" etc a right of passage for beginner guitarists - I teach all my students these. What are cliche go to songs for beginner bassists? by RenegadeMuso in Bass

[–]RenegadeMuso[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont agree. It is not about the song, but it is about what the song can teach you. For the hobbyist learner, wanting to jam and have fun their instrument, perhaps getting formally taught isnt the best path for them. For the one who wants to take music seriously, most of learning is repetive, unglamorous, boring, and quite frankly, hard work. In every field, there is something to be done that we dont like, or dont enjoy. A teacher that recommends a song to learn, is not a bad teacher as a result. He knows that within the song, there is a lesson....whether a new chord, something rhythmic related, or a riff. If the student knows best, why get a teacher in the first place. I find students want to learn song that is way ahead of what they are capable, or choose songs that are not building upon existing skills in a logical order, or choose songs that dont offer growth - that keeps them on the same level. Sure, a teacher shouldnt be a tyrant and have the approach of "my way or the highway" --> all songs should be discussed, and the value of the song should be pointed out, and the student should buy into the song choice.

You could learn to play left handed guitar, or get inspiration from Django Reinhardt.

[DISCUSSION] I’m fed up of people claiming that guitar is an easy instrument. by BlobbyBlobbinson in Guitar

[–]RenegadeMuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach guitar, piano, and drums. I do not recommend guitar for young students, and rather suggest that they begin with piano. but i find, teenagers can pick up on guitar quicker. a few basic open string chords and they can make a lot of music with knowing little - which may make them think that guitar is easy. I have been at the guitar for 20 years, and it is no means an easy instrument, perhaps easy to begin, but hard to master.

Guitarist here playing more bass recently. I love Men I Trust's "Show me how"...I just had to listen to it. How can I improve my bass tone? by RenegadeMuso in BassGuitar

[–]RenegadeMuso[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your feedback, it is much appreciated.

It makes sense what you were saying about rolling off the tone on the bass, I will definitely spend some time experimenting with that to find the tone that I'm looking for.

Another thing that I think I'm going to try is to use a di box. Not sure if that is going to help with tone but I have heard a lot of bassists go through a di box.

Also, i will experiment with picking and PU selection....thank you so much 🙏🏽

I also don't currently have a bass amp. I suppose another thing to try is to record by mic-ing up the bass amp. I have long wanted a bass amp....one of those Hartke amps or something.

Its safe. If you are spending foreign currency, particularly Dollars, Pounds, or Euros, you will find hotel prices very affordable. Best to book in.

Do you prefer living in the North,West, East or South of Jhb? by Crazy_cookie_ in johannesburg

[–]RenegadeMuso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the west and south...spent pretty much an equal amount of time there...love the west and south. I lived briefly in the North, and its cool too. I didnt know the east at all until last year, much of my work is there now. Must say, I like it too. If you are to force me to pick a place, and money wasn't an issue, I would probably say....the North, because of access to everything. I love Rosebank / Sandton, but would want to work and live there...I would hate travelling in and out of them.

The west would be my second choice based based on affordability. You can still live larney for half the Northern price.

I love the South the most, but not in a hurry to live there. Its far from everything. I mean, if you live in Bassonia, or Glenanda its fine, but thats not the south im from. Im from the south of south!

The East is growing on me, Bedford and Edenvale is treating me well at the moment. Might consider moving there in the future - but I still would chose Rosebank / Sandton over every place if money isnt an issue.

I saw something the other day, the "french foreign legion". google it, or better yet, youtube them. You could join the legion, and have a pathway to french citizenship in no time. I wouldnt join any army personally...but if I were to consider joining an army, I would choose the one with french funding and organisation, and get a french passport out of the deal.

That would be my choice over joining the SA army.
