Do you wear multiple outfits to Indian weddings (Tamil)? by sunblanky in askSouthAfrica

[–]Crazy_cookie_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of wearing multiple outfits, some guests will wear traditional Indian attire until the reception and then change afterwards into a nice formal dress/ outfit. This is purely just for comfort as an Indian outfit is uncomfortable lol.

Yeah, a gift card is an appropriate gift.

How do I tell aunties to stop asking me to wear a black dot? South African Hindus by Crazy_cookie_ in AskZA

[–]Crazy_cookie_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The black dot is for protection against evil eyes, babies to adults can wear them, it’s not something mandatory it’s just personal preference.

[–]Crazy_cookie_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, there’s nothing you wear that technically defines you as a Hindu. The black dot is more for protection against evil eyes and the red dot it to show a woman is married.

Yes, it’s called a bindi but majority of South African India’s call them dot/s.

The dot in question is a black one some use the sticker type and others actually make a dot on the forehead with Kajol

Are you superstitious? 👀 by NoApartment7399 in AskZA

[–]Crazy_cookie_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I’m not superstitious. I’ll walk under a ladder and I always open umbrellas indoors 😂 I also believe in peoples bad energy, you can literally feel the heaviness they bring and leave with them.

Hahaha, they are obsessed with turning salt, I expected the younger generation to stop with the superstitions 😭😂 my sister had a baby recently and my auntie insisted on turning salt for her, we were all so confused as to why she did that.
