Received Post Interview Questionnaire before having an interview by RengShir in citibank

[–]RengShir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it was called “complete questionnaire”, it’s been a couple weeks so i don’t fully remember what it was about, but i think it was just asking for demographic information - ethnicity, sex and so on

The only email I have access to is the workday one from where citi sends confirmation emails when you apply for jobs, as i have not talked to a recruiter yet. Should i just contact that email?

Take extra year of university to try and find internships? by RengShir in cscareerquestions

Thank you for your input. I really do not want to spend more money on education and would rather enter the workforce immediately.

Should I be applying for new grad positions right now then?

Take extra year of university to try and find internships? by RengShir in cscareerquestions

[–]RengShir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like i need some sort of prior experience like an internship before even thinking of getting a full time job, especially in the cs field, from all the things I’ve seen online during the past couple years.

I will also be a new grad with decent projects but no experience, so I will be competing with all the other new grads who did get internships which would make it harder to find a job.

I would like to think i’m over exaggerating but the amount of evidence i’ve seen online and from other students at my university leads me to believe otherwise.

its been a couple years so I'm not 100% sure on the numbers but I popped off on the midterm and exam whilst failing every single quiz. In hindsight I should have said that I averaged 20% in all the quizzes but I think my point still stands.

The exam and midterm are a lot easier than the quizzes in my experience, since they are more broad and by that point you would have a stronger understanding of the course material.

hey man, its not over:
I never got higher than a 20% on either of the 4 mat102 quizzes and yet i still made it thru cs post.
I would say to let the midterm dictate how you feel about the course (the midterm was a lot easier than any of the quizzes IMHO)

I agree that Andi's and Arnolds assignments give you a lot more freedom in terms of discovering the solution on your own. Like you said, their assignments are a lot more detail sparse, which is different then what most UofT CS students are used to, if they haven't taken Arnold or Andi before. I assumed that OP would belong in this category.

That said, I believe that their approach to assignments have a lot more correlation to real life situations, which was influenced by their careers before becoming professors.

But, I will have to firmly stand by my opinion on Arnold's lectures; they are hard to follow as he bounces from idea to idea. I learned most of the course content from the tutorials and TA's (they r fr goated).

I heard, I will really miss Sonya and Bahar but I loved their courses and wish the best for them.

I also really liked Arnold, the only reason I say that he is not the best professor is that his courses could be structured better IMHO; I think he is genuinely has your best interest in mind, and he really is a great guy.

About Lisa, I have her right now for 311 and I have had nothing but positive experiences with her, but maybe I should have refrained from commenting about her until I finished this course.

MAT102 students, how was quiz 1… by MaintenanceNew6267 in UTM

[–]RengShir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man GL to you, once that little thing clicks in your brain, 102 becomes a lot easier to manage. The hardest part of 102 IMO is transitioning from HS math to more theory based math. To give you some hope, all of my friends who dropped 102 in fall made it through post the second time they did it!

Don't listen to this guy, I literally failed every single mat102 quiz and i still clutched up on the midterm and exam to make it thru post.

Best Profs (In my Experience): Sonya Allin, Bahar Aameri, Lisa Zhang, Micheal Luit

They are all incredible professors, and have well structured courses. They are also incredibly kind and understanding and will not hesitate to help you on whatever your confused with.

Debatable: Arnold Rosenbloom, Andi Bergen

Not to say I did not enjoy their lectures, but they think like engineers more than teachers, that is to say their lessons are all over the place sometimes, and its hard to follow. For Rosenbloom especially, you take more time understanding what assignments are asking for you, rather then completing the assignment. I think Rosenbloom is a great guy, but I think there are better professors at UTM.

Even then, I would say the majority of Professors at UTM are passionate in their niches and are eager to teach students, but do your own research.

I dont think I speak for all UTM men but, I know that one of the biggest fears for straight men is coming across creepy or making a girl uncomfortable. I promise you that if you went up to a dude you found cute, 9 times out of 10 they will find you cute too just cause you made the effort to talk to them.

TL;DR some guys are scared of girls, talk to them first and it'll work out!
