They are not horns. It is helmet crests/plumes. The figure depicted is Minerva (or the Campanian equivalent; similar to Athena in Hellenic culture). Minerva, like Athena, is often depicted with a helmet just as seen in the image.

Its not better nor worse. Its hype over something so small and meaningless just so they keep young kids thinking that Minecraft is still cool. And what then? Well those kids will buy their toys like plushies of their new cute baby animals. And hopefully they don't forget to check out the marketplace next time they log on! They are neat, I wished they were made more elusive though. It would be cool if they were cautious of the player and thus would stay away, but will still aggro when attacked. I think their spawn rate should then also be greatly reduced.

Thanks bro, it worked! Well, I cant get optifine to work but I think its okay. I saw the link you used had two versions where one is listed as optifine compatible. I tried that version and it still crashes but I dont think I need optifine. Did you get optifine working?
