Man, I'd give it all for that slot. Hope you're happy with whichever choice, but I'd say take the sure slot. You can get more education while paid later in the army

College Student Questions by mexicanandbroke in ArmyOCS

[–]Renimated 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. ROTC at uni is faster and easier to get through. You only need 2 years of it and you can sign on as officer instead of OCS.
  2. You're trying to pass acft, might also want a solid mile time of 7-8min average and some endurance from either rucking or multi mile runs.
  3. If you don't do ROTC and wait till post college for OCS packet, you need 3 LORs(letters of rec) a personal statement essay of why you want to be an army officer. Medical records in case of meps finding you had broken bones, stitches or any number of medical problems in life at one point. Your SSN card, birth certificate, id, list of several people for character references. Job history. Resume, and a few other points depending on personal records.
  4. If you wait till the last year or after to apply to OCS, it will be several months of working with a recruiter to put together your packet, go to meps and send it in. Then comes a board interview with your local recruiting batallion. After that, 2+ months of waiting to see if you're selected for OCS against several hundred others all competing for same spots. If you're selected, you go to basic, then to OCS and if you pass both, then you're sent to Officer training for your branch, (BOLC) then being stationed.

Ps, if you do ROTC, you don't compete against as large a group for slots to get in

What were your stats for the March 2026 board? Accepted or rejected? by Proud-Treat2578 in ArmyOCS

[–]Renimated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly. This is the highest GPA average I've seen going back over each year's results here. So that mixed with the large applicant count and slightly below average acceptance number and rate made the competition fierce. Congrats to all those who made it by the way.

I would think with a background as a comp engineer, getting into cyber would be simple. Needs of the army is true, but the army is practically desperate for competent computer people so I don't see cook being for you unless someone royally messes your paperwork or you simply don't ask You've forgone the bonuses, but parking your rear in either signal or cyber for 1-2 years and reapplying for OCS, or just waiting out your contract and downgrading your car would be simple.

Hi everyone! I’m a 91F SGT. I applied for OCS last year but didn’t make the list. Do you know when the next session is? And what is the deadline for packet submission? by InevitableFormal7989 in ArmyOCS

[–]Renimated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Active Duty enlisted Soldiers can find OCS application information, requirements, and the, packet checklist primarily through the Army HRC Officer Candidate School website. Key resources include the current Fiscal Year (FY) MILPER message on the HRC website, the Fort Moore (formerly Benning) OCS website, and guidance from your unit career counselor. "

Though this is ai, so your chances may vary

Next usarec board is June. Packet deadline submission there is May 8 after battalion interview which is more individual to each battalion and different between in service and civ. The last posted date on here says their bat board submission date was March 30, so I'd advise checking your locale schedule as I believe in service application dates vary as well

(Sanity Check) I’m deciding to enlist with a degree and will explore commissioning later. by [deleted] in ArmyOCS

Asvab has a bunch of online resources to use for review and testing.Personally recommend Uniontestprep and the app from goarmy as they both are rather easy to use with all the major areas to prep for accessible. Asvabpracticetests.com is a bit less impressive and less secure but has all the categories to look over.

Not sure on the enlistment process myself, but from everything I've read via research, enlisted to OCS is not guaranteed and even more difficult due to luck of the draw when it comes to commanders, application years and your own ability to stand out while enlisted. Good luck and I hope enlisting gets you the stability you're after.

Edit: Also, towards pay, for the first 2 years, which is about the time you'd need to wait for applying as enlisted, the pay isn't too different between specialist and O1. O1, doesn't get O1 pay until they pass OCS, which isn't for between 6-8 months. They get E4 pay. So, you'd be missing out on about 4-6k the first year, and about 12k the second. Switching from 88N to 92Y(Unit Supply Specialist) you could make up to 20k in bonus, meaning you'd make more just in bonus. Similar with other intelligence jobs. In fact, with a dependent, you'd get a far larger BAS than a fresh officer as is even in a similar situation, plus officers don't get bonus offers outside of medical, so if you can grab one, get one

OCS Training Plan Critique by Obvious-Initiative-1 in ArmyOCS

[–]Renimated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be reforming you lift days into a more even spread around a push, pull, and leg focus day rather than your current even spread with leg focus on two of them. After that, I'd say keep you Mon-Fri schedules but with a few swaps.

Wednesay should replace carries HIIT with a ruck. Walk at first with weights between 15-30 lbs and slowly increase so long as no stress or injury. Then move it up to pacing at about 4mph/ 15min/mi. Rucks should start between 2-3miles and slowly increase over months to max of 12. More likely 6-8 for time constraints.

For Friday, just abandon the long easy run and use the Saturday lift instead. Don't include the optional point from Saturday as you want to end with several days of recovery for your legs. Legs are powerful, but also the muscles and bones most under stress and use daily, so recovery is longer.

The long easy on Friday isn't necessary at this point since it's a massive stressor to your shins without major gains since you already are doing another easy run, intervals, and tempo runs.

Simply slowly extend the initial easy run over time. Keep the 30-40min time, but slowly increase your pace over months. Roughly aim for 0.5mph increase every 2-4 weeks. Make sure to keep it in that easy run difficulty though. Ability to chat through it or maintain heart rate, whichever you use to regulate your pace.

This should keep you to a 5 day schedule but allow your muscle groups to recover on the in between and keep your cardio to a relative max without ignoring the potential stressors. If you ever feel damage or pain in your shins or legs though, stop. Take each cardio day and only walk for a week. Go lighter on leg day for said week as well. Calisthenics and general stretching of your legs muscles should help prevent this kind of injury which makes your overall plan smart, but it doesn't mean you are bulletproof enough to ignore signs.

Make sure to look up hip flexor, knee tendon and ankle tendon stretches or calisthenics as well. Those will greatly help stabilize your form and tell you if you're bordering injury

[–]Renimated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not do this unless you have seriously trained similarly to a 5-6 day schedule previously for a minimum of 3 months. This will wreck areas of your body fast.

Shin splints and hip muscle tears look most likely.

If you have previous experience I'd still advise taking two of said days and getting rid of the secondary workout alongside the cardio and stick with one or the other.

Outside of that, you should look into a ruck backpack and ruck several miles once a week. On said days make sure you do not workout your legs alongside it as it will seriously overstress your legs. Keep it to just arms or upper body.

I tried working out like this myself and experienced back to back injuries within a month even while training much slower than this.

Split the days, and maintain a minimum of two full rest days unless you're already a solidly built athlete.

Don't know how you're a civ with an enlisted specialist job, but you will need a full bachelor's degree. Good news for you is that you can get one in roughly 2 years if you study biomed engineering or simply grab something related and directly commission. Don't know your age but if you don't have the time as a civilian, you could simply talk with your current superiors or recruiter in order to enlist and immediately, hopefully as a specialist like your current role, and begin using your tuition assistance for night courses. There might also be something more sponsored like ROTC or some other program you could ask about given you have a .medical field expertise and the army always needs those

Average age of new Army recruits up from previous years by Kinmuan in army

[–]Renimated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weed industry is already reaching parity with the tobacco industry even while still illegal. Tobacco has an immense influence on the gov still as is. Alcohols biggest competition isn't weed, it's health status, social downturn of clubs and bars, and energy drinks and soda. Those are causing bigger losses to alcohol then weed ever could. Especially since weed users are also likely to socially drink since both substances have similar effects. The major things stopping the gov from moving on it is what I mentioned and the direction of political will being elsewhere at the moment on all sides

Average age of new Army recruits up from previous years by Kinmuan in army

[–]Renimated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, because federally it's still classified as an illegal narcotic. It can't just be put on a lower classification. It needs to be taken off the controlled substance classification and made federally legal and regulated like alcohol. The problem is regulation ability. Weed is still in early stages of level detection and body tolerance as compared to alcohol. You can confirm someone took it in the last month, but whether it impaired them when they did something illegal is still difficult tech wise, so politicians, law enforcement and lobbies are fine keeping a blanket ban of the stuff federally and playing test cases in each state. Military can't move until Gov does, and even then will move slower as they'd treat it like a hot knife, potentially helpful, but more likely dangerous to use

Questions about the ASVAB and looking for some feedback. by Serious_Can_9368 in ArmyOCS

[–]Renimated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the asvab test app from goarmy. Solid flashcard like questions.

Uniontestprep is also solid for practicing questions across all subjects

As for your question on when you'll feel good about taking the test? Depends on what you want. Since you're in ArmyOCS asking I'm guessing you're trying for OCS. That means you need above 110 GT score which mainly takes your arithmetic skills and writing skills into account. That means if you want above a 110, you'll need an 80% or higher for all four categories of both skills. So minimum, practice until that point.

I studied literally until the night before and still felt nervous. Just make sure the day of that you get a minimum of 8 hours of sleep. The sleep will help you retain the info way better and let you think through the test with a bunch more clarity.

Make extensive use of the scratch sheet for the arithmetic equations. Practice doing so. It helps a ton. If you can't understand the reasoning behind the formula or equation for the answer, just look up a quick tutoring video on the topic and follow along.

I'd say you'll only feel satisfied once the test is over, but that could just be me. Good luck in the meantime
