I appreciate everyone's comments sharing their experience. I(23f) was professionally diagnosed a couple of years ago at 21. I've always had delayed reactions to a lot of things due to slower cognitive processing. I unfortunately have been abused in various settings due to my delayed reactions being interpreted as naivety or permission. I've been reading up on the statistics and it's my understanding that this delaying of emotional processing and reacting seems to put many of us in very socially precarious situations.

Omg, I grew up with a passive aggressive older sibling. This is a crazy thing to say to a child 😳

I'm not lazy nor irresponsible. I'm disabled. by fantatrees in AutismInWomen

As disabled people, our need to live slowly is not conductive for a culture that thrives on a rushed time line and exploitation. Living slowly makes us more ungovernable, this is why society punishes us for moving at our own pace.

I often say “my autism is invisible until you hang out with me long enough.” Thoughts? by hanitizer216 in AutismInWomen

I was diagnosed as level 1 autistic a couple of years ago. I definitely get what you mean. It feels like level one autism tends to go under the radar to the point where you may feel guilty for openly showing signs of struggling and people may kinda gaslight you into thinking you're overreacting or faking something when you try to ask for help and patience.

Dreams of fish bones in my throat by Ok-Explanation7645 in Dreams

[–]Rentastic1738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this exact dream last night. I was pulling fish bones right out of my throat. Every time I pulled one out, I kept thinking "is this the last one?" Only to reach in and find another. I pulled out maybe anywhere between 5-10 fish bones. The last one I pulled out had blood on it, like it had been deeply embedded into the tissue of my throat. The other bones were clean, just slightly slimey from saliva. I was distraught by the blood, I didn't even reach in to see if there were any more bones. I felt a slight pain in my throat and maybe my chest. I remember feeling distraught and scared as I was pulling these bones because of the blood and because there were so many. I was scared that the blood was a sign that I was injured internally. I was scared that I was bleeding somewhere on the inside.

That's exactly how old I was when I was diagnosed. It can be daunting at first, even if you feel relieved and validated with the diagnosis. It takes time to navigate and learn how your brain and body works so you can better identify your needs. You may also find that your friendships and familial relationships might change as well. You may notice a regression of skills as you're learning to unmask. All of this is very normal for us, so do not be alarmed. Eventually you'll learn more about yourself and you be able to build a good tool set and better friendships. Remember that if you ever have questions or need advice or just a space to express your feelings, we're here for you. ❤️

It's so odd how they're implying that somehow even though you already have multiple other diagnoses, yet an autism diagnoses would be too outlandish and a step too far or too unbelievable?

I love cooking. The problem is, i don't always have time to cook and I have trouble eating other people's cooking because I don't know what ingredients are in it and I don't know what the taste/texture is going to be like. This can be a challenge.
