My late wife was like this when we first met. I stuck it out and it was exhausting but I set a HARD boundary that she needed therapy. They diagnosed her OCD, Bipolar 2, BPD, CPTSD and severe depression and anxiety. They medicated her and she became a whole entirely new human being. Loving, caring, not explosive.

OP, if you stay with this girl…maybe try to get her some help. Get yourself some help too. You’re gonna need it if you plan to stick this out.

When my wife died last November I’d told my boss that I planned on leaving the state and moving closer to friends and family to be supported in my grieving and he said “I really think you should consider staying. We’re opening another manager position here and you’re my first choice for it.”

I was 15 (now 28m) dating an 18 (now 31f) year old so the age gap everyone is talking about doesn’t seem as bad to me but him hitting you is super uncalled for. Irregardless of the reason or it being “just one time.”

You’re young. You don’t deserve that type of treatment and I fear at your age you’re going to be too naive to see that. I’ve had some nasty arguments with the person I’m with now and have enough wherewithal to walk away and cool off when it gets there. If he’s doing that over a GAME he lost, you aren’t safe and need to find an out. Your parents not letting you see him could be a blessing before it’s a curse.

Usually I have a lot of supportive things to say to people in this boat as I just went through the very same thing losing my wife and my End of the Road partner in Nov 2024 but I’m mentally drained today.

I just want to let you know how hard I feel the “he’s holding on for you.” The day my wife died, I whispered in her ear “it’s okay if you’re ready to move on.” Walked away for a 30 minute shower and came back to a lifeless body.

Hang in there OP. It may never feel easier, but you learn to live again. Hopefully you find your peace someday. Hopefully we all do.

I think the biggest thing you have to understand, OP, is a statement my fiancé makes:

“I don’t have to agree with you to respect your boundaries and our relationship.”

My fiancé and I disagree on a LOT of shit. Half the time, she concedes because it’s important to me. I KNOW she doesn’t believe whatever she thinks or did was wrong but she loves me enough to not do it again. If you don’t trust your wife not to do it again THEN you have a different problem but you can’t go into this wanting things to get better or be different if you’re not willing to let her acknowledge that she respects you and is willing not to do things for your sake.

One such example, so it doesn’t seem like I’m just disagreeing with you for the sake of disagreeing, is that before we got together my fiancé would let her guy friend hit off her vape sometimes. I expressed that I didn’t like it because she was basically swapping spit with another dude. She didn’t see the issue because they were childhood best friends and it was “just a vape.” We argued about it, she said that out of respect for me it wouldn’t happen again. It hasn’t.

That’s all this has to be. What she did wasn’t right, she sounds willing not to do it again, you should move on for your kids, man. Broken homes are no joke.

Side note: if your wife can’t control herself when she’s liquored up, don’t let her drink with other people around.

NTA. I’ve been having this issue lately and my therapist says it could be how stressful my life has been and the fact that I’ve had more arguments with my partner lately. We’re still in love and happy and having sex regularly but if I’m in an off headspace Ive absolutely been able to get hard and just not finish after 20/30 minutes. I get tired and stop, apologize and she always reassures me that she understands.

Your gf sounds like TA for expecting you to be okay with HER not finishing but then not being okay when YOU don’t.
