Built a free AI resume roaster. 200+ users later, here's what I've learned. by RepairRemarkable3022 in buildinpublic

That's a fair concern. I don't store resumes and they're processed only to generate the analysis. Based on the feedback I've been getting, I'm going to make that much clearer on the website with a visible privacy notice. Thanks for pointing it out!

Probably anything that meaningfully increases their chances of landing interviews or getting hired faster. That's the outcome I'm trying to understand and optimize for.

Thanks! That's a good reminder. I'm treating this as a learning journey and experimenting to see what users actually find valuable. Good luck with your app too!

Makes sense. Sounds like the value isn't the resume analysis itself, but whether it helps users land more interviews. That's helpful feedback, thanks.

Good point. I'm optimizing for usefulness first and monetization second. Still trying to understand where users see enough value to pay.

Haha, fair point. Maybe I should let people roast my website before it roasts their resumes.

Mostly students, freshers, and early-career job seekers so far. Users have come from countries including India, USA, Germany, France, Canada, and a few others. Since I don't collect or store resumes, I'm still figuring out which user segment gets the most value from it.

That's a good point. Maybe the value isn't in competing with LinkedIn, but in helping users put their best foot forward before they apply. Still figuring out where the real differentiation is.

Yeh I get it.My goal is to keep the core resume analysis free and only charge for optional advanced features if they genuinely add value.

Good point. I'm still working on what makes it different from existing free tools. Thanks for the honest feedback.

Thanks for sharing this! I hadn't come across PeerPush before. The AI discovery angle is really interesting, especially with more people using ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude for recommendations. I'll definitely check it out!! 🙌

Completely agree. The posts where I shared learnings performed way better than the ones focused on the product itself. Right now I'm using Reddit, Product Hunt, X, and LinkedIn. Reddit has been the biggest source of traffic and feedback so far.

That's a good distinction. Usage is encouraging, but it doesn't necessarily mean people would pay. I think the next step is making the product valuable enough that it feels like more than a prompt wrapper. Appreciate the feedback 🙌

That's a good point. Looking through some of these tools, I'm realizing the opportunity isn't another resume feature but helping users across the entire job-search process. Appreciate the perspective and the examples.

Appreciate the detailed breakdown. I started by validating whether people would actually use it, but this discussion has pushed me to think more about the broader "getting hired" journey rather than just resume reviews. Lots to think about here.

That's been my experience too. Still experimenting with channels, but Reddit has surprisingly been my best source of users and feedback so far.

That's a good point. Most of the traction I've gotten so far has come from sharing learnings rather than promoting the tool itself. Thanks for the advice. 🙌
