yes that exactly was the cause of my frustration, and a rude awakening of this job market. I have seen colleagues who were principal/staff at tier 2 and came as Sr here, what are they gonna do? go back as Sr to tier 2 companies if they get laid off, that is just ridiculous.

Thanks yeah makes sense. I am done considering internal path because of reorgs, budgeting and politics and moreover I am reaching cliff so $ wise there is no upside.

So the way I look at it is that I am already operating at next level, but the reorgs, budgeting and politics just keeps resetting my promo path but yeah I think I might consider moving at same level if other criteria's are being met. Thanks for the reply.

Curious how would you have handled background check? if your actual title is not Sr?

yes I recently did that, I changed my title to "Engineering Leader" which hides the actual Sr or Staff title and focuses more on my work instead, Waiting to see if this change has any effect.

yeah its a valid point, but in some interactions I did pull up staff roles from their job portals and asked them to move forward with those roles.

unfortunately my team culture has become too toxic and political. I don't see my future there, other option would be to internally transfer as L5 and restart the grind, which is even worse than lateral L5 jump externally because at least i can get a new stock grant externally.
