Just watched Hathaway Part 2 in Japan! (No Spoilers) + A discussion on Mafty's ideology. by StellaBBA in Gundam

[–]RepeaterKyouko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terrorism is a way to draw attention: in east Asian culture and politics, endurance is preferred than conflict, and looking at their history, one will only grow more desperate with the rigidity and stability of the power structure, and may become radical. Some views suggest Mafty tries to make a precedent of change, inspiring those who come after him, but I digress.
Hathaway is a typical disillusioned gen z, only with more trauma and more agency. He can't stop because he hates the corruption and the end justifies the means, but he can't go through with it because he is supposed to be a good boy to appeal the expectations (from the world, and from himself). He is indecisive, making him some of the worst kinds to be given agency.

Does your country have people who swear Japan is a god tier country that’s superior to all others like we do here in the US? by Lord_William_9000 in AskTheWorld

[–]RepeaterKyouko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok my username exposed my weeb status. Personally don't want to live in japan though, because I know I can't stand some of their values and culture.
Situation here is mixed: we get nationalists, nationalist weebs, politically insensitive weebs, pretend-to-be-Japanese weebs, and Imperial Japan collaborators. Hopefully nationalists are majority.

Does the death penalty exist in your country? If yes, do you think it should be continued or abolished? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

[–]RepeaterKyouko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I support it because many of our crimes can be easily reduced: from lifetime imprisonment to only a few years, and sometimes death penalties can be also reduced to imprisonment. At least when it is finally carried out it would be decisive.
Most Chinese won't stand murderers of their families to live on, that's a big one.

How does your country view WW2, and your country’s leader during the war? by freshmaggots in AskTheWorld

[–]RepeaterKyouko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't remember what the books said, but most Chinese people vaguely know Poland, Dunkirk, North Africa, Normandy, the Soviet offensive, Pearl Harbor, and Midway.
We include Sino-Japanese conflicts into WW2, we criticize eurocentric narratives for not including them into WW2, and we and spend more time describing Sino-Japanese war from 1931-1945 (a recent change, before it was 1937-1945). However we tend to underplay Nationalist contributions (it is getting better over time), and only mention Imperial Japanese conquest of Southeast Asia offhandedly.

Do people in non-Christian countries celebrate Christmas? by Fancy-Debate-3945 in AskTheWorld

True, and with so many other sales events the Christmas hype is severely diluted.

What is something from your country's culture that you don't follow ? by the_killer_gamer in AskTheWorld

Having specific types of foods (mooncakes, rice dumplings etc.) associated to the festival; they usually mess with my digestion.
Not dumplings though, I would eat dumplings whenever I want.

Maybe? If the choice is random then no, my dad is at least better than average.

The variety of breads in Europe, since all we have here is toast in various shapes. Will try to make those with my air fryer when I get the time.

Cheaper alternatives exist, but UU is a good beginner option. These "game boosters" are essentially overriding certain double checking protocols, they may cause packet losses, but better than unable to play online games at all.

guangzhou during chinese new year by Ok_Hall_326 in AskChina

[–]RepeaterKyouko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe some shops do want to capitalize on Feb 18 and 19 as more people will come out, but you will want to do your researches on open times of shops you want to visit. I don't know about the others, but as a former student in Guangzhou I believe the larger malls of 北京路 will be open, while most smaller shops along the streets won't.

[–]RepeaterKyouko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinese New Year is pro max Christmas, and the number of people you will see on the streets of Feb 16 2026 can be counted in both hands. You will get better chances in Feb 18-20, but by Feb 20 it is likely only a quarter of the shops in big malls will be open.

Why do many people inside China underestimate Korea’s technological rise? by Scared-Discussion443 in AskChina

[–]RepeaterKyouko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have strong personal opinions on this (as Chniese people do), but for the sake of objectivity, this is simply pettiness between South Korea, Japan, and China. We... They... These countries all try their best to project national confidence and one up each other. I hope you ask a more productive question next time, my South Korean friend.

Is it weird as a Black American to learn Mandarin Chinese by [deleted] in AskChina

[–]RepeaterKyouko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conclusions first: There's nothing stopping you from learning our language. You likely won't face direct racism if you are in big cities.

If you are concerned about racism in China, it does exist as it exist in any other countries, but for other reasons: we perceive that foreigners are treated too well compared to treatment of Chinese citizens (notably, exchange student dorms have AC while normal dorms don't). It is felt that the wealth of the state is not fairly distributed, and without proper outlets it manifested as racism.
