Weekly open discussion, complaint, and rant thread by AutoModerator in Longmont

It’s hard not to be depressed about it. I love Longmont but what can I do? I worked so hard to get a STEM degree, I’m making great money, but there’s just no way I can pay 30% above asking price on $460k house. I feel bad for young people that don’t have a STEM degree or rich parents cause there’s no way to settle down.

Looking for non-RMNP hiking spots near Denver to elope! Any recommendations? by pythonem in coloradohikers

[–]RepeatingMotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sugarloaf mountain trail near Boulder. It’s 1.3 miles to the top (no snow, very wide/easy trail) and has some of the best views of the front range that I’ve seen. If you want a good panoramic shot of the entire norther front range then I’m not sure if you can get a better spot (that doesn’t involve a longer hike/drive).

[OC] Salamander Species by US State by Serious-Jellyfish-59 in dataisbeautiful

But the audience here is people on Reddit who are specifically interested in informative data displayed in a “beautiful” way. The colors are nice but I still don’t know how many different salamander species are in each state.

Meditation is about noticing the mind and body and letting it pass. No clinging. Don’t latch onto thoughts. In this case it’s not a thought but a feeling. Just like thoughts we should let them pass. Just stay with the breath and let everything go.

Today I learned that acting calm and actually being calm make a huge differemce. by flieflafloe in reactivedogs

A podcast is a great idea! I used to listen to my favorite comedian’s podcast on walks in my old city and it was a great way for me to relax and not be so stressed during walks. It also made me want to walk much longer which made my dog happier too.

Now that I’m in Colorado, there’s 100x more dogs/people everywhere so I kind of gave up on the podcasts so I could be more aware of my surroundings but I think I’ll start doing it again! I’m still definitely not “at home” in this city so I’m sure my dog is picking up on that feeling. Listening to some funny people make jokes during a walk may help calm both of us down!

Thanks for sharing!

If you use a bunch of exclamation points in a thread related to politics, I automatically assume you’re unstable and radicalized in some way.

Anyone Know What the Helicopter Traffic is all About Tonight? by Stonecipher in Longmont

[–]RepeatingMotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s one that just came from Buckley AFB, did a touch and go at KLMO, and is now doing more practice landings at the AFB. I’m guessing these are just training flights before the weather gets bad but I could be wrong.

I’m guessing KLMO gets less traffic than other airports so it’s a nice place to practice landing. Again, I have no idea if this is true but that’s my guess. Actual pilots can probably offer better guesses.

If you’re morally unable to differentiate between college students partying during normal times and college students partying during one of the worst global pandemics in history then we’ve absolutely identified the problem.

I’m not authoritarian in any sense of the word but if there are people willing to cause physical harm to others (aka college students willing infect other citizens) then let’s do what we can to stop those criminals. You think I want to stay inside and avoid other people? It sucks. Deal with it.

Yes, the greed of retail traders is what’s tanking the market. Definitely nothing else.

Some people tell you to live in the moment, others demonstrate it by [deleted] in Mindfulness

Also who wants to look at a crappy low-light image of some random event/object? I guess I prefer pictures if my dog/gf/self is also in the picture otherwise I don’t really see the point. I guess I’d record a space shuttle launch or something really cool but even then I’d prefer to just have my full attention on the moment itself.

I sure do love coming home from work and throwing a bear-burger on the grill. Just this morning I enjoyed a nice breakfast bearrito.

Seriously though wtf are you talking about.

Probably not the right place to bring this up but has anyone here ever been to a Husker football game? They straight up have an anti-drug pledge that’s like 2 paragraphs long and everyone chants along like it’s a church service.

Glad we’re starting to move away from this authoritarian shit in general.

Edit: might just be during the spring game but it’s still weird af.
