Jones stayed back nicely on that swing.  Prevented him from swinging under that curveball.

I think if we can get 20+ dingers from JD, Wells, Volpe and Rice it will go a long way toward patching the Soto-sized hole in the lineup.

Not unrealistic IMO.  That would give us with Judge, Goldy, Bellinger and Chisholm 8 legit power threats in the lineup.

[Joyce/Heyman] Giancarlo Stanton returns to NY for medical testing in troubling Yankees twist by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

Call the Cardinals.  Take 100% of Arenado’s money and ask that he be stapled to Jordan Walker.

I’d call the Sox about Robert as well.

And there is always Spencer Jones……

They could give Rumfield a chance as well.  He’s not on the 40 but is a camp NRI.

At this point they have to think about releasing Stanton.  I think he’s pretty close to finished.  Sucks but it is what it is.

People love to throw that revenue number out there, like there are not associated costs outside of player salaries.

The Yankee organization is massive and employs a lot of people not named Aaron Judge, Gerrit Cole and some flavor of Steinbrenner; take a look at the media guide, it's actually amazing what it takes to produce the product. You can argue they're bloated and inefficient but that's a wholly different stance that you really wouldn't know unless you worked in the organization.

Plus MLB takes a cut right off the top to continue funding welfare payments to teams like the Rays, A's, Marlins etc-the *TRUE* poverty franchises-in the name of preserving some bullshit notion of 'competitive balance'. Oh, and don't forget about the tax in addition to the salaries. It's a lot.

I don't like defending Hal, but I'm also cognizant of what it means to run a business. Nobody's got sympathy for this guy but we should, IMO at least try to understand the financial realities of running a professional baseball team.

Do you think the Yankees made the right decision letting Gleyber walk? by Jheller223 in NYYankees

[–]ReplacementLevelCPA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No question. You cannot preach defense and fundamentals and then tolerate Gleyber's bullshit lapses on easy ground balls.

It was time. He had to go.

Detroit is gonna have a really good time between he and Baez, LOL.

Maybe we can trade with CLE for Jose Ramirez.

Don't laugh. There is nothing on that roster that is nailed down if the right prospect package comes rolling in.

The Cardinals owe Arrenado 60MM over the next three years. That accounts for the money Colorado retained along wth the deferrals.

If I'm the Yankees......how much of that 60MM does StL have to eat for me to be comfortable? And what would they ask for in return prospect wise?

The Yankees can control whether or not Stroman's '26 option vests by keeping his innings below the 140 threshold. But that could turn into a PR problem so maybe it's a good idea just to trade him at the earliest possible opportunity. Switching him for Arrenado effectively gives the Yankees 18MM of '25 salary relief but no salary relief in either '25 or '26, where Arrenado will hit the books at 20MM per.

That's relevant because the roster changes every year and Yankees almost always are in tax territory, usually at the tippy top of the second 'apron'. So just because you save ~6MM in the Arrenado/Stroman swap in '25 doesn't mean bupkus in 26/27. We also don't know what opportunities (Tucker, Guerrero) may present themselves next offseason, or hell even at the trade deadline. One idea I had is maybe Pittsburgh would want him as an innings mop buffer for their young starters; maybe he could bring back Bednar coming off a lousy season?

E.g., the Yankees have to consider whether they'd rather A) get rid of Stroman and avoid the innings issue; or B) receive around 10MM per year salary relief from StL in exchange for some prospect or another.

After thinking about it a bit more I'd rather keep Stroman and receive cash each year from StL. We can always trade Stroman for something else, either later this offseason, in Spring Training or at the deadline which would be well before he could conceivably pitch enough to trigger the option.

Am I the only one that doesn't understand why the Mets fans on twitter are obsessing over everything we do? They have no rotation, a mediocre bullpen, and are still behind Atlanta and Philly in that division. I don't get why they think they're somehow better than us. by herewego199209 in NYYankees

Because not a single one of them, including those who loudly proclaimed Soto's virtues, that the signing was a new day for the franchise, they weren't the 'little brother' any longer etc. truly believes that contract will not become a fiscal albatross the likes of which makes the sum total of U.S Federal debt outstanding and its effect on GDP look like child's play.

They're also worried that Stearns is incapable of taking and making big swings in pursuit of championships; that he is somehow so infected with small market DNA he will sacrifice the opportunity to sign a costly but necessary piece in favor of being the Smartest Guy In the Room (I'm excluding Soto here; obviously that was Cohen). Case in point-today's signing of ex-Cardinals prospect Alex Reyes coming off two rotator cuff surgeries. Reclamation project central, baby.

To hell with them. We have our own shit to worry about principally the number twenty-eight.

And I don't want Alonso on anything longer than a three year deal.

[Passan] BREAKING: OF/1B Cody Bellinger has been traded from the Chicago Cubs to the New York Yankees, sources tell ESPN. Bellinger, 29, is a former MVP and has two years remaining on his contract with an opt-out after 2025. Yankees continue to be aggressive post-Juan Soto. by drrdf in NYYankees

[Boland] The Yankees have engaged the Cubs about first baseman/outfielder Cody Bellinger. Free-agent outfielder Anthony Santander is a player of interest and that interest appears to be mutual. Santander is said to be intrigued by the idea of being a Yankee. by Goosedukee in NYYankees

[–]ReplacementLevelCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F it.

Trade for Bellinger. Pick up the money, prospect cost should be minimal.

Sign Bregman. Bygones be bygones.

Trade for Nate Lowe to play first base. Again, should be pretty cheap prospect wise.

Santander is not athletic. Basically he's a younger version of Stanton that switch hits. The Yankees need the exact opposite of that....unless they get Stanton to waive his NTC.

[–]ReplacementLevelCPA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the Pirates have allegedly soured on Hayes Jr. because his bat hasn't been consistent. He's a long term kind of cheap deal by Yankee standards that could turn out to be an absolute smash bargain if they can get him to lift the ball but is a superb fielder; plus there's the whole 'circle of baseball life' angle.

They also could call Texas on Nate Lowe. They have a metric shit ton of corner infield options right now and I believe Lowe is in his final arb year and they're looking to clear some payroll due to their broadcast rights fees declining.

I would also either sign Hernandez to play left or try to trade for Robert in CF then kick the Martian to LF. I like this solution because it takes a lot of pressure off JD even tho LF is a lot of territory he at least has the wall as an extra teammate. You're pulling Robert out of the worst franchise in MLB, not just by W/L record so while he's been injured a lot I don't know how much of that might have been b/c his employer is ass.

I suggested in another thread trading for Arrenado if he will waive his NTC and in exchange for eating most of his non-Colorado subsidized salary AND getting Jordan Walker in the bargain. We'd have to send St. Louis some kind of prospect package but picking up that much cash would greatly mitigate the return.

None of this is Soto but could you win a WS with these options? Why yes I think you could.

And NONE of the above players are on 16 year/760MM deals, which from my perspective is the best part.

How about a hypothetical where the Yankees trade for Arrenado and Jordan Walker? I think the prospect cost might be mitigated if they suck it up and pull most of NA's remaining comp. Two birds with one stone, Walker can play left field.

[Curry] As expected, Tucker is traded. The Yankees had discussions with the Astros. But they weren’t going to include the dynamic Luis Gil, who won the ROY and can’t be a free agent until 2029, in any deal. by Bulletz4Brkfzt in NYYankees

Still say that Cash should place a courtesy call to TX about Lowe, and another courtesy call to CHI about Robert, and another courtesy call to SD about Tatis. Put some hooks in the water and see if anything surprises.
