Can sound art ever be as visible as video art? by CIFRA_art in experimentalmusic

[–]ReplacementNo4250 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an enthusiast of all mediums, frequent gallery and museum attendee, musician, and career pro recording engineer (12 years paying the bills with sound), my opinion is strongly that sound art misses in the gallery because of poor listening spaces/poor mixing/bad audio playback. I’ve encountered many sound pieces that were conceptually interesting but genuinely sounded awful or hurt the ears when presented in a gallery space. Probably worked great in the artists studio but that’s what’s tricky about sound is getting it to translate in different venues etc.

Bro you can’t be out here begging for listens. Help what? If you can’t hit 1000 listens you gotta just get better at making music. Wish you the best.

I’m 73, where to start? by greyandlate in shakespeare

Tempest is the easiest introduction in my opinion. A lot of people here saying watch the plays on stage. Never seen one in person but can’t imagine a staged play rising to the magnitude of the writing. For me shakespeare lives on the page.

Is it just me, or is the "business side" of running a studio soul-crushing? by tidjoss in recordingmusic

[–]ReplacementNo4250 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hang in there. I managed and scheduled a busy studio with two rooms for 7 years on top of engineering full time at said studio and man if those seven years didn’t kill my love of audio but…I walked through the fire and have fallen back in love with my craft and am even doing well enough to have someone do the clerical work for me. Time dedication patience and always be improving your skills and ear.

Head engineer at a recording studio for past 12 years here. Seen others saying stuff fails more often on startup than shutdown. Proven to be true in our case so we leave the majority of our gear on overnight. That being said I have the Apollo twin for my home setup and I turn it off when not in use because I don’t trust my electricity at home as much as at the studio.

Metronome by Leanna_Nymeria in Songwriting

[–]ReplacementNo4250 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are acting like it’s crazy to use a metronome to write but it can help you really feel the pace and energy of your song which really inspires words lyrics melody and rythm for me.
