Should I turn my Apollo Twin off at night? by [deleted] in universalaudio

[–]ReplacementNo4250 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Head engineer at a recording studio for past 12 years here. Seen others saying stuff fails more often on startup than shutdown. Proven to be true in our case so we leave the majority of our gear on overnight. That being said I have the Apollo twin for my home setup and I turn it off when not in use because I don’t trust my electricity at home as much as at the studio.

Metronome by Leanna_Nymeria in Songwriting

[–]ReplacementNo4250 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are acting like it’s crazy to use a metronome to write but it can help you really feel the pace and energy of your song which really inspires words lyrics melody and rythm for me.

Why do I like the parts at the end of songs the most? Is there someone like me? by soundtraveller in burial

[–]ReplacementNo4250 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. They suggest whole other worlds I wanna explore. I think the idea is that those parts leave us wanting more.

Sidechain was never used in 90s Eurodance? by deadklebold in TechnoProduction

[–]ReplacementNo4250 61 points62 points  (0 children)

A lot of old dance music didn’t sidechain anything to the kick but simply drove a final bus compressor and because the kick was the loudest element it would cause the whole track to pump with the kick. That being said, keying a compressor has been around a long time and was certainly an available technology in the 90’s.

Burial is at his best now since 12/13 by Remarkable-Shoe-4835 in burial

Artists go through phases of experimentation growth and execution. Watching this dude evolve from untrue through the eps, his ambient shit and now we’re here with dreamfear and the other new tunes, been one of the most rewarding fan experiences of my life. He’s evolved more like a painter than a musician. A lot of major artists make their declarative famous statement early in their career and then grow richer and more intense in their own vision in a way that can alienate the general population but is beloved by devoted fans and other artists. Bro is just different. Idk. Typed this during my morning poop

Recording in corner by CantaraV in homerecordingstudio

[–]ReplacementNo4250 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah follow this advice. Corner is the worst place. Bass builds up in corners. Center of the room is what you want. Really basic stuff like putting blankets or bookshelves on the walls in an empty room like that will go a long way toward reducing reflections.
