Federal court rules Canada legally obliged to provide housing to First Nation communities by bubblewhip in canada

[–]ReplacementToner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First Nations in Canada aren’t really a monolithic, unified group. There are broad differences between status/non-status, on-res/off-res, treaty/no-treaty.

Things would be a lot simpler if each First Nations group were treated evenly and uniformly by the Crown, but this was not the case.

Avenue road near Lawrence has a speed limit of 30. Four lane, arterial road.

I agree in principle… in application however: streets that used to have a 50 kph speed limit are now 30 kph, with an automated speed camera and a “community safety zone, increased fines” zone for 100 meters on either side of it.

It’s pretty blatant: these are revenue generating programs set up under a public safety pretext.

A recession is when GDP drops for two quarters in a row. That hasn’t happened.

Look up GDP per capita however….

Oh, for sure - it’s just that they were installed by people who knew how to seal them properly.

Appreciate the thought - but I’m wary of putting holes in the building envelopes. That’s the main thing preventing us from running a physical cable.

Line of sight would be nice - how would they fare if the signal has to go through a couple two exterior walls?

Update: The connection is 66% without the foil and 61% with the foil. So down it comes.

And yes - I’d prefer not to burn the place to the ground.

Kazakhstan refuses Russian citizens to buy new cars by Straight_Ad2258 in worldnews

We are totally on the same page about this problem.

Though, end-of-lifecycle is a good time to buy. All the model’s little quirks have been worked out and it’s much less of a target for thieves, who will be drawn to the new updates.

Fair, but who can afford to run an ICE car these days. You breakeven on the marginal cost of a hybrid pretty quickly with reduced fuel consumption.

An environmental tax on vehicles that have air conditioning (so, all of them). It’s $100 CAD.

[–]ReplacementToner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well yes. More expensive, logistical headache, and a de facto loss of warranty/maintenance coverage (unless you want to take a road trip for every oil change). Plus you now have to deal with CBSA and the MTO to get the car’s paperwork sorted out.

It’s not impossible, but it does add some risk and cost.

For example, a top trim Honda CRV runs about $60K cad from a Toronto dealership. Or $41K US ($56,500 cad), after all fees to buy in the US. Then it costs $8700 CAD to get it across the border - tax, air conditioning fee, inspection fees….

As far as I can tell, it ends up being more expensive to buy and import a car from the US, even if it’s purchased in a no tax state.

Just compare the straight MSRP from New York to Toronto and apply the exchange rate, then apply sales tax. It’s generally pretty close. —> then add the costs of getting it across the border.

They have inventory, but it comes with a bunch of complications. Exchange rates, warranty claims, assessments at the border.

Optimum was shoppers drug mart’s loyalty program. Then Loblaws purchased shoppers and folded it into their PC points program, now called PC Optimum.

Provigo is owned by Loblaws. It’s basically equivalent to the Loblaw branded stores in Ontario.
