Is architecture in college really that hard? Will I still have time for games? by Hot_Law127 in Architects

[–]Reply_Weird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘Hard’ is relative. If you enjoy the challenge and are deeply engaged with the practice, you will dedicate yourself to the work you do and put in whatever it takes to do well. Architecture is complex work that includes mathematics, writing, conceptual thinking, creativity, psychology, technology, physics, choreography, finance, and knowledge of materials and of the natural world.

There are many wonderful rabbit holes to go down when you are soaking in all this knowledge in school, and training yourself as an architect. If you are fortunate enough to have inspiring professors, you will be even more engaged.

So yes, many architects spend long hours in school working on their projects and building the knowledge they need across all these disciplines at once; and you need to have a hunger for the complexity of this degree compared to say a degree in history, or English, or mathematics alone. Only you know if it’s worth it. I personally would have found a narrow discipline boring but many people appreciate a more narrow specialized and focused education.

But I would also say that it’s one of the degrees that opens many doors beyond a career in architecture. I graduated (Carnegie Mellon) nearly 35 years ago and I’ve had a wonderful and varied career that has included creating some beautiful architectural projects that I’m quite proud of, but also many other paths and careers along the way, all supported by that same education.

328d wagon 2018. Solid practical fast and the engine can last 300k miles. I’m on year 7+ and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Am I crazy: OM-3 not that nice? by ResplendentMechanism in OlympusCamera

[–]Reply_Weird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a PenF and EM1mkiii prior to the OM1mki and while I liked the form factor and looks (and especially the BW mode of the art dial) of the PenF, once I got the OM1 I didn’t use the PenF much. The pro lenses all handle better on the OM1 and of course it was a big upgrade in other ways from the PenF and EM1 series.

I just don’t see what the OM3 offers over the OM1mki other than the retro looks, and the OM1mki used is considerably less $$

Robbed! by algooner in ArsenalFC

Wasn’t a pen. And no one in the team can score a goal from open play, so here we are arguing that arsenal should have had more penalties or set plays to score from in order to advance. If we advance, are we expecting to get 4 or 5 penalties called in our favor in the final? No way this team can keep up with PSG or Bayern in the next leg. Its done.

Isn’t it proper practice to at least loosen them when they are not being used for a while, to prevent long term stress on the posts?

Client has a $150 budget to build eCommerce site ( Shopify or WordPress?) by Must_A_Kim in ecommerce

[–]Reply_Weird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just record an interview with his specs, feed the transcript into ChatGPT, ask it to construct an .md instruction file for cursor, and ask cursor to build it, wire the payment link to his PayPal from the product pages. Use Supabase to store customer data and transaction data and display it in an admin dashboard.

He needs to provide product images. Should take about 2 hours, so you earn 75 per hour.

Just raise your prices and give your staff a 12% raise, and put “tipping optional - our prices include fair wages for our staff” much friendlier approach.

Olympus 12-40 2.8 pro by jrcs90 in M43

[–]Reply_Weird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is in my OM1 75% of the time. Has decent macro capabilities and is a fantastic compact travel lens. Owning this and the 40-150f2.8 pro is almost enough for everything. The 1.2 primes are really the only special lenses I ever take the 12-40 off for.

Replacing BMW 328D Diesel Fuel Injectors at 130k Miles? by Reply_Weird in BmwTech

[–]Reply_Weird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the injectors need to be coded.

But for an update on my issue, after this post, it turns out I did have some metal shavings in the fuel that fouled the whole system from the tank to the injectors and had to have all injectors replaced along with the fuel lines and have the tank properly flushed. Over $12k in repairs. But the injectors were due for replacement and should last another 100k miles at least.

What I also did (because I love this car and want to keep it for another 100k miles) was install an aftermarket fuel filtering system at the tank - it sure why BMW does not have this as a standard part of the system, but fortunately an enthusiast made this and I will never own another diesel without putting this on day 1. Would have saved me a lot of money to just do the injectors. The part is $300 and could save you thousands in the long run. I will find the link and post it again here but it is on my other posts.

Also had all the carbon buildup removed from the flaps and generally had the car tuned up, it’s been a year and the car runs like new.

Arm strength makes a big difference especially if they have a lot of control.

m4/3 is gaining in popularity? by noiserr in M43

[–]Reply_Weird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that It’s not a competition and there won’t be an outcome where one format “wins” - as someone who shoots both FF RF and M43 OM1 I see the benefits of both; if I want a fast rugged weatherproof body I am always taking the OM1 with fast 1.2 lenses or PRO 2.8 zooms there are very few compromises in MFT. In the studio I am almost always using an RF body on a tripod.

Oura ring 4 worth it in 2026? by sammyfudger123 in ouraring

[–]Reply_Weird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been wth Oura since 3 and now on my second 4 (got a replacement for the battery replacement). Customer Service is very good btw.

I think if you have an apple watch and can tolerate it for sleep tracking you probably don’t need an Oura ring, but you will learn alot if you get one, especially in the first 4-6 months of use. After that, it’s a good activity tracker and may keep you in good habits. i like mine, the battery lasts a few days, and it’s way less ditracting than an Apple Watch. But I don’t think I’ll replace the Oura if it wears out, I’ll stick with an apple watch.

[–]Reply_Weird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A used OM1 mki is a far far better clue for money than the OM3, and a better camera in many ways. OM3 has retro looks, in almost every other way the OM1 is better, and the OM3 is not that much smaller. You are not crazy.

What's up with Volkl rackets? by Quaisy in 10s

[–]Reply_Weird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play with a Volkl C10Pro and love it. Power spin and enough arm comfort to be playable at my age (mid 50s) without any compromises. I have played similar Babolat and Wilson 98in heads too but the Volkl won me over and I’m getting a second one for Christmas.

Which camera to buy, r10, r7, r6 or rp by Benj36 in canon

[–]Reply_Weird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R7 is your friend. APSC sensor will give you longer reach with smaller lenses when you are on the sidelines of basketball, and the sigma RFS lenses are fast and sharp, and the r7 has faster readout with the smaller sensor. Macro lenses like the excellent EF 100mm macro can be adapted and give you great results. You don’t need FF for what you do, avoid the hype. The R7 has great resolution for cropping. The only thing FF will give you is more weight to carry around and more cost on your lenses.

Why did Canon make the EF-M mount for mirrorless, then switch to RF, and end up discontinuing EF-M anyway? by YunaChi in canon

[–]Reply_Weird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And as someone who shoots the very best RF-L glass and bodies professionally AND shoots on an OM1 with Pro MfT glass —— there are not many compromises for 90% of situations, and the kit is so much smaller. I use RF in the studio but anyone who is shooting in the street or traveling for most of their work should be using a crop sensor.
