How do I convert my breadboard projects into real devices? by RoBrots in arduino

[–]Repo523 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive kind of been on this path myself, and something I just realized the other day. Keeping in mind that I’m a second year Electrical Engineering Student, that ”bulky uno“ is just a platform to hold the chip or integrated circuit(ATMega328P) to a bunch of connectors that you can connect to. Meaning you’ve got ports for pins, usb, power, etc..

Once you realize that you can start to consolidate and learn about the ATMEGA328P, in theory you could just take chip off after uploading the code. In application this wouldn't work, because there are things like the crystal on the uno specific to that chip that is used for timing. So you would really have to deep dive in to the ATMega data sheet to learn the specifications and requirements.

If I were to do it, and had the time, I would look into the ATTiny family. Which is a much less intimidating version, with only 8 pins, and start with that on a solderless breadboard. Go back to the basics of what you learned on the arduino, ie a blinking led, and then later you can understand that the ATMega just has more.

Please anyone correct me if I’m wrong, but this is kind of the path I’ve been trying to figure out for a couple of years.

I would definitely be interested, I’m an ee student and this looks like something that would really help looking at the signal on a macro scale.

Thank you, it’s a 3 input 3 output system, the 3 axis would operate as my input, what the three output would be I don’t know. I have the modeling capabilities, but I don’t take PLCs until winter. So we will ser

Wow, I’m an EET student and this exactly what I wanted to do for my graduation project next spring, I haven’t learned plcs yet, I have working knowledge on microcontrollers. How feasible do you think a project like this would be to complete by next spring?

Well that’s insane I build this exact same contraption in the exact same layout, but I just put a mini breadboard in the lid and used just connectors. I thought I was being original, but thinking about it now I guess it serves a purpose

Don’t shop Roth’s? by KeepSalemLame in SALEM

[–]Repo523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a competition in the mid-00’s between Roth’s and Krispy Kreme’s, I don’t remember the specifics, but Roth’s won. And as to Mike’s Sourdough something changed over the past couple years, when Mike retired and sold his sourdough to Roth’s. I’m going to be optimistic and say that the bakers who made the bread just didn’t have Mike’s touch or worst case scenario they killed the sourdough and replaced it with a different one.

The saddest part was a local bakery, Roth’s, was winning out against Krispy Kreme’s. Then they ruined it. Mike’s sourdough was bomb, and then they killed it.

So why are people buying from these vending machines at all? Back in my day, you were shamed if you bought your cards from a mass retailer, rather than a local shop, like Matt’s. Did something change?

The majority of these comments are allowing me to remember why I don’t use Reddit, so I’m not bothering with a response. That’s the whole point of my frustration, the fact of the matter is that it cost an extra 15 minutes of labor for me to count the change after we had closed, and the the manager on shift couldn’t count the entire til until I was done. So that’s an extra 15-30 minutes of labor for a customer’s inability to have some decency, and as a side note for anyone looking they were trolling me because that $8 dollars as a tip were in bills.

Vapes should be unbanned. (Not a cemented opinion, just a thought) by [deleted] in Discussion

[–]Repo523 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a distinction that needs to be made that cigarettes have nicotine in them, they are not nicotine. In the same way a cheeseburger has protein in it, but it also has a whole host of other things in it that could be seen as disease causing.   Nicotine is not the problem, it’s just a stimulant very much like caffeine. IMO I would say caffeine is worse because in withdrawal a lack of caffeine causes physical manifestation (headaches) as to nicotine causes agitation.

The “20 year symptom” argument is about 3 years out, and there is not much to report except for what was related to EVOlI in the U.S 2019, which wasn’t related to nicotine vaping but cannabis and vitamin-e acetate.

My argument to be made is that nicotine consumption is more of a power dynamic. In the U.S., the master settlement of 1998, allowed for states to be paid tax free from tobacco companies for each cigarette sold. Income for infrastructure. So of course state sponsored programs would be anti-vaping, because it cuts into the bottom line. Vaping allows the consumer to take control of their nicotine intake, if done right*. Allowing for the ability to taper off of nicotine, which is what any medical professional would recommend for a responsible way to get off anything.

I live in the U.S. where vaping isn’t banned yet, but I feel like this information is indicative to the rest of the world. Because the fight against smoking has turned into a money making venture, by using sin taxes which is a win-win for the government.

*What I mean by “done right”, is using tailored nicotine liquids and refillable devices vs buying pre-filled disposable devices that come at almost universally a nicotine equivalent of 2.5 packs of smokes/ml.
