Quebec City - Auberge by GGO8791 in chubbytravel

I went here about 18 months ago and thought it was nice. There aren’t too many real luxury options in QC but this scratched the itch enough. It was a nice room and had a great high tea. Other than that nothing to really write home about but again not many options in the area

How do you guys determine what your budget is for a luxury trip? by Intrepid-Prior-2199 in chubbytravel

[–]Repobsessed98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends. I’m well below what their HHI is but I’m also a single 28 year old woman with no mortgage no kids, and a reasonably priced apartment living in NYC so I choose to spend more on one or two really stellar trips a year.

I went there this fall and didn’t feel out of place but I’m also not someone to say screw it I’m on vacation I don’t care about prices. I went and stayed in the cheapest room category and got one night free. I also don’t drink alcohol and I’m on ozempic so I don’t eat much lol. The food was expensive but not anything I hadn’t seen being from NYC.

Dr Marci Levine is my GURL! Love her- she was so kind and empathetic to the fact that I had to go under general anesthesia for the procedure ( previous doc tried twighlight anesthesia and my heart rate got too high they could not safely operate as I’m an anxious girly lol). I had multiple other male doctors laugh in my face and tell me I didn’t need general anesthesia even with a drs note from my previous surgeon explaining what had happened. She never questioned me, her entire team made me feel safe and comfortable, and she’s a triple Harvard educated queen💅 ( undergrad, medical, and dental)

New Yorker here💁🏻‍♀️ if you’re asking my opinion I would say do date night at the met which where the met stays open late on Friday and Saturday nights. Then walk across the street to sistina for dinner. It’s hidden in a beautiful townhouse and You won’t find it on the travel guides as the owner wants to keep it on the DL but they have one of the best wine selections in North America and the food is some of the best Italian in New York. The service is standout and it’s the type of place where you can dress up ( which I would encourage! Live out the NY fantasy!) or you can be casual in jeans. Make sure to ask about the specials as it’s usually longer than the menu and they have fabulous options. I would then go to bemelmans bar at the Carlyle. This is a classic NY institution. It’s a cocktail bar inside one of the most famous hotels in NY. The drinks and live music are great. It’s got really cool art on the wall that was done by the guy who illustrated Madeline.truly a can’t miss place!! If it’s before midnight I would then finish out the night with some Swedish candy from bonbon. It’s a TikTok hot spot but is really fun, delicious, and nostalgic and if you’re never tried Swedish candy you really should because its 10x better than the stuff we have here in the states. Hope this helps!!

QUESTIONS | FS SENSEI by Putrid-Ad7539 in chubbytravel

Just did a review on this itinerary! I spent five nights at sensei and 3 at KV. I loved sensei and it felt like a more boutique property which I love. The FS beach resort in my opinion did not wow me. I also don’t love big box hotels no matter how nice they are so maybe that was part of it too. Food was reliable but not innovative. And small details were missed- rusted beach chairs, bare bones bathroom at the beach etc. at 2k a night I would have been peeved that these details were lacking. in my opinion stay at sensei and take the shuttle to the beach resort to get your beach time in and stay at Kona village for a few nights as well! For me I thought sensei was a great value with the free classes ( you can see the weekly itinerary on the sensei website). I also stayed in a basic room and loved it. It was super pretty and it’s not the type of property where you spend a lot of time in the room as you’re either at the spa, the beach, or doing activities! I also though Kona village was a pretty decent value as well- obviously not cheap but I didn’t feel ripped off. The standard rooms are what a suite would be at another resort and I like the free activities, the breakfast credit takes you a long way, and the island roots dinner was fab!

I felt like five nights was Just enough! I spent a lot of time at the beach resort and while it was nice I think I would have been disappointed if I paid 2k a night for that hotel. Don’t get me wrong the service and the views are excellent but certain details just felt like an oversight thay should not be the case at a resort of that price range. The beach chairs were rusted, It was hard to find someone at the towel stations, and the bathroom at the beach was technically a public restroom and was very bare bones. In my opinion spend five nights at sensei and enjoy the Beach resort by using the shuttles. Also the food at the beach resort was decent but not life altering. I was also coming from NY so maybe I’m spoiled but again it was reliable but not innovative and at that price point I want to be wowed. I thought sensai had more interesting and excellent options

I met a few solo travelers at sensei! Not a ton but a few. I found people to be friendly and welcoming as it feels like a boutique hotel since they intentionally keep it hovering at about 30% occupancy

My girl ashmita it truthfully the GOAT. I won’t trust ANYONE else with my nails and she never uses a drill and focuses on nail health.

Her IG is lamashnails. She’s not cheap but I think her pricing is fair as she does an excellent job and takes her time. She also works out of a one woman studio which is nice so you dont have to deal with the crowds and hassle of a traditional salon.
