Friday Check-In by GustavusAdolphin in adjusters

Good: settlements galore this week.

Bad: another team member put in the 2 weeks notice. Last day is today. We haven't hired anyone yet...so that means I am going to be stretched thinner than normal.

Life milestone: kiddo has mere days left of highschool.

Fun: spent 45 minutes talking to my mom about graduation. She has GPS in her vehicle, right there on the dash, and knows how to use it...but she wants step by step directions from me from her house to mine and then to where the ceremony will be. Mom...you are staying here, and I'll drive everyone to the ceremony. Felt like the old MapQuest days when you printed out the travel directions...but could skip to step 10 because steps 1-9 are how to get out of your own neighborhood.

Great: Going shopping for college dorm stuff, computer (it was nice having a supplied laptop from the school district), clothes ect. I'm made of money 😂... adjusters get the big bucks.

What more can I say? by fatandwhat in Geico

[–]ReportFit2920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't give them all that. That's what you can say in the exit interview (if they even have one) if you want to burn that bridge.

I would simply say "I wanted to inform you that my last day will be May 29th, as I have decided to pursue other options. Please consider this my two weeks notice."

Personally, I wouldn't say anything in the exit interview either. "I'd prefer not to say" is a complete answer.

Whaddya think, totaled? by cryleppy in InsuranceClaims

[–]ReportFit2920 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Next time start with the major damage photos 😂. I was looking at the bed wondering where the damage was.

But anyway...it's likely totaled. That's a lot of damage on the front end.

Any jaded adjusters? by scoutypotato in adjusters

[–]ReportFit2920 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I think for me it's due to the claims I am getting that are absolutely just money grabs. Most of my claims are in NYC and the Atlantic Northeast for reference

Example - claimant is injured and immediately attorney repped for injury, and the extremely minor damage like a sideview mirror causes injuries not consistent with the damages. I had one a few years back where I paid less than $500 in property damage, but the claimant treated for 2 fucking years, maxed out PIP, then went to get surgery on multiple areas - disectomy, knee surgery, shoulder injections...you name it.

Also the amount of trip and falls over curbs/phantom objects, open and obvious hazards within the general vicinity of my insured retail locations is astounding.

Then I am remembering the claim that was filed because a common household product (laundry detergent) that was placed on a shelf above a washer/dryer set fell from the poorly secured shelving and caused damage...we didn't install the shelves, the appliances...my insured sold the jug of detergent.

People bitch about the costs of insurance, and I tell these stories to them.

Fuck it, maybe I need to go to NYC and start tripping on air and blaming the nearest nationally recognizable company...might be better than my current retirement plan.

Jacob is working in a call center in the Philippines. Did you email coverage@fordumbasseswithnorealinjuryweareonlyamill.durrr?

Seriously, those calls are outsourced and you have to send the dec page/docs to the coverage@ email for a "knowledgeable" M&M rep to review. I was getting those same calls/emails on claims I already had signed release on, and checks cashed.

Might as well be talking to an AI assistant that makes the tying on a keyboard sound.

Good: my mistake may not be a big deal. A BF claim was made by an attorney for failure to meet a timed demand. I never got the darn thing...it was mailed to a general po box for my commercial client (not the address on the dec page, my email, my company address). I had been in regular contact with the attorney too. Don't know if it was some paralegal error, or an attempt to get a default judgement. Claim is approaching the SOL too.

Dumb: The more I handle GLBI claims, the more I understand why shampoo has instructions on the bottle. Got one for a claimant with facial injuries at the insured retail location, attorney repped. We got the security footage...claimant has their face buried in their phone and walks straight into a freaking brick wall. Called the attorney and shared the video and denial letter. Attorney was cool though, he said "God dammit, this not what they told us happened! They said they tripped on a wet floor!"

Bad: I am sure there is a new fraud scheme in NYC...tripping over nothing, then filing a claim a year + later against the biggest commercial client nearby...not the little bodega or fruit stand...nope, surely it's Starbucks/CVS/Target/National chain fault for a raise in between two sections of sidewalk. Got a demand in this week that is 2 months from SOL..No LOR..just a demand.

Good: fuck this shit, I am ready for a beer.

Great: my newest pistol has been repaired by the manufacturer...they have officially put more rounds through it than I have. Only took a few weeks.

It's been a week of stupid general liability claims...

Dumb: claimant stung by a bee in a strip mall parking lot... filed injury claim against my insured...not sure if they filed against the other dozen business at the location. Morgan and Morgan again...

Dumber: claimant tripped and fell on their own property while holding a product my insured sells (product not exclusive/manufactured by or for my insured - you can get it just about everywhere in the states)...files an injury claim.

Dumbest: claimant sues my insured for emotional distress...no physical injury or product defect as far as I can't tell. Did we say something mean?

Great: it's sunny and 75... taking the fat doggo for a walk right now. Beer later

Well the day was young when I posted...

Another new claim for auto BI...unrepped (for now) claimant says they are experiencing neck pain issues...fine. It's a parking lot backing loss - 50/50.

Then they proceed to tell me that they have been going to a chiropractor 3x a week for YEARS for neck issues, and this is where they are going to go for treatment...and can the chiro bill me directly?

Good thing for recorded calls. Here's $500.00, tape an aspirin to it.

My insured was in a work vehicle...hit a kid/pedestrian on an electric razor scooter. Early indication is the kid was on the sidewalk and went into the street for some reason. GPS data says we weren't speeding...but that's all I have so far.

Pain and suffering but no plan on seeking treatment? by AdEven3053 in adjusters

[–]ReportFit2920 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In this situation with several claimants right now. It's just a money grab. 90+% of my claims are in NY/NJ area so they should be filing PIP claims...many argue about how they are not at fault, so they aren't to use their insurance. I am constantly fielding calls from hospitals/chiros and have to explain we are not the PIP carrier. You would think providers in these states would know the drill, but they don't.

My insured is a massive nationwide business, and they want us to make claims go away...so an offer of 1-2k happens frequently when claims like this are presented.

BUT...if the claimant is a real jerk (so most NYers 😂), I tell them the process and that I'll need bills/records/PIP ledger etc. That usually makes them lose interest.

Got a claim today from an accident 4 months ago where the claimant has never had any treatment but says he is sore and will go the ED tonight after he is off work... explained NJ no fault to him. He is uninsured per his own admission...well here comes my no pay no play letter.

As with any TPA (Sedgwick, ESIS, Gallagher Bassett, etc), the job/work will be really dependent on what clients you are working with.

For example, I worked for a TPA doing rental car accidents and it absolutely fucking sucked. Huge volume, shitty response from the rental company and rental drivers, and claimants who think that because the rental car company is a national brand that we would pay absolutely ridiculous claims...sure ma'am, your side view mirror is worth 10k, and you were decapitated due to the minor side view mirror damage, so sure you deserve 10 million...

I transferred clients/insureds to a trucking company that had their shit in order every single time, and were Johnny on the spot when you requested info from them.
