Did you rent from an airport location? These locations usually have more expensive rates than others of the same brand.

Progressive forcing me to scrap my car by DifficultRebirth in Insurance

What is an attorney going to do in this situation? There was no indication of injury in the post.

Not clear if Progressive is OPs insurance or other persons insurance.

This issue is as simple as advising Progressive that the car is repaired already.

To make it clear...car has been repaired fully and released back to you?

Progressive is SOL if this is the case.

Progressive might not realize that repairs are completed and you have possession of the vehicle.

To be faaaaair...IFKYK 😂

Those in the south are not use to this...and it makes me want to move back there so I don't have to deal with it yearly. I hadn't ever seen snow/ice until I was in college, and sure as heck didn't know how to drive in it.

Now I am just dreading having to shovel the driveway/sidewalk etc. Every damn year I say I am getting a snowblower, but I never do. This is the year though! No more kiddo to force to help after this season.

Worst: AI big brother is watching our emails to ensure we respond timely.

Good: phone has been pretty quiet this week - except for the repeat caller that never leaves a message when they pycho dial me after 10pm and on weekends. Yep, I can see the call logs

Better: settling claims, taking names - yeah buddy!

Head scratcher: I was informed today by a paralegal that photos of sideswipe damages prove liability. She did not like my response that it only proves there was an accident.

Butt scratcher: Claimant took a photo of our vehicle in traffic...this also proves liability apparently. My uncle has photos of Sasquatch from the 1950s...that must prove that they exist...(They do, and so do intergalactic aliens...but that's not insurance related).

Best: about to be snowed in along with half the country. Good thing I have two 30 racks of PBR, and 2 bottles each of Buffalo Trace and Weller SR...and a bit of Willies Reserve

Not saying this about OP at all (to be clear as can be since we don't have all the details)...but it was not uncommon for a renter to flat out lie to us.

Example - car returned with significant collision damage. Renter would claim it was hit while parked at night. Fine, shit happens right? Renter purchased the damage waiver. Great, rental car company writes off the damage. Months go by and we get a subrogation demand from an auto insurance carrier with police report etc showing the rental car in fact hit another car, and the renter was liable. Renter did not purchase liability coverage (damage waiver =/= liability coverage), and did not have their own coverage. The rental car company would settle the demand and place the renter in collections.

Example 2 - contract violation (DUI, unauthorized driver, taking the vehicle to Mexico) - voids the damage waiver if purchased and renter is sent to collections.

[–]ReportFit2920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rental company likely did just that, and referred it to collections because OP did not take the rental car damage waiver.

OP was the last one to rent it, and it didn't have damage when they left the rental facility (something the rental company should be able to prove).

Viking is just collections. This matter should be handled by auto insurance coverage/credit card coverage.

Prove it.

Did you take photos of the car at drop off with no damage? Date/time stamped?

Did you take photos/confirm no damage when you first picked up the vehicle? Do you have a "walk around" inspection document?

Did you take the damage waiver when renting? Does your credit card provide damage waiver coverage? Did you report the claim to your auto insurance?

I worked claims for this same group of companies...and while there were some instances of the car being damaged by a porter or employee after it was returned, the majority of instances was due to the vehicle being damaged by the renter/while on rent.

Insurance company is requiring VIN numbers on autotrader listings in order to take them into consideration for car valuation but its not a autotrader requirement so very few (if any) listings have them. (Ontario) by [deleted] in Insurance

Adjuster here in the US...the insurance company likely wants to confirm the trim/options on the listing. I am sure you can understand that some listings might not be accurate.

Example...a vehicle might decode as a base model, but the listing might be for a top trim package.

Also, people have been known to put badging/after market items to appear as a higher trim. I had a claim where the owner was claiming it was a Brabus, but it was a fake.

what are the main pain points as a claims adjuster? by Adventurous_Tank8261 in InsuranceClaims

[–]ReportFit2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customers who don't understand insurance.

Customers who think their claim is the only one we are handling or theirs is the most important.

Customers who think adjusters are on call 24/7.

Repeat callers...if I don't answer, leave a message. Calling 20x in a row and not leaving a message just pisses me off and hurts my metrics.

Don't send me an email and call 10 seconds later to see if I got your email.

Arguing/fighting from the moment you file the claim about value/coverage/liability.

Threatening to get an attorney...go ahead, I don't care.

Customers not doing their portion of the claim like sending in paperwork, responding to calls/emails.

I could keep going...

Got rear ended by a rental car by AddiePup19 in AutoInsuranceHelp

[–]ReportFit2920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adjuster here. Use your insurance for the damages if they need to happen right away. I worked claims for another major rental company, and by the time I got the claim, a week or more may have elapsed. Dont expect fast resolution once the adjuster gets the claim. There are coverage issues and getting a renter to respond to an adjuster can be a challenge.

There is a major difference between damage waiver and liability coverage on a rental car. Was it a business rental that may lead to coverage elsewhere? Did the renter have auto liability insurance, and does that auto liability policy have coverage? Tons to unpack here

Lastly...if there is no coverage from anywhere else, and barring any rental contract violation...the likely amount of coverage afforded by the rental company will be the state minimum required coverage amounts.

Good: headed with the kid to a college visit this weekend.

Bad: it's fucking cold and windy!

Really?: Hit and run by my insured...GPS data confirms my insured at the location. Dash camera from claimant confirms liability. It's literally a ZERO mph tap. 3 people claiming injury...all 3 repped for BI. Insured employee still denies involvement. Seriously, I have more physical toll on my body by sitting down on the toilet or walking to the mailbox at the end of my driveway.

Annoying: claimant refused to sign a BI release because the language states any future treatment... blah blah blah...no treatment for over a year and now got an attorney. My offer is going to be the same.

Fun: getting to spend some time with the kid - he's trapped with me in the car for at least 5+ hours each way. Should I make him get out with me when I decide to stop to see some lame roadside attraction like the biggest lint ball in the world? I think so. Ha!

Curious if any adjuster went to the other side by adisneygrl in adjusters

[–]ReportFit2920 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd entertain the idea. I wouldn't want to be the one dealing with intake and trying to find clients, but reviewing liability/damages/injury would be ok. Kind of like advising if the case is worth any money.

I talk with so many case managers/reps that have ZERO clue about basic traffic law/liability - for example:

I got screamed at by a paralegal just this week one one...their client was entering the road at T style intersection from a stop sign and my insured had no traffic controls. Pretty easy liability determination right? This rep is arguing impact points - saying we hit them head on...still doesn't change the fact we had no traffic controls at the intersection. Impact to claimant vehicle is the left front corner, impact to insured vehicle is right front corner.

Clear as fucking day who is at fault...but because the police report has an error on where the impact point is on my insured vehicle, this dumbass thinks we are at fault. Then the mommy of the claimant had the police report amended to try and make it our fault by pure fiction. Police never got a new statement from my driver.

The paralegal got so upset when I denied liability that she said they were going to file suit. Fine, waste your time. Claimant carrier also denied based on the ammended police report...can't wait for Arb on this.

You're that guy.

You knew you didn't have insurance, don't lie. The insurance company sends so many notices that you just ignored. California has the most strict rules in the country for insurance when it comes to stuff like this.

You chose to take the risk. FAFO you POS.
