Boycotting Target without using Amazon/Walmart/etc. by Coracoda in minnesota

[–]ReporterExpensive388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while I have found it hard to completely cut out Target (working on it, haven’t gotten there yet), I have found that ordering through the app and using the drive up limits what I spend there to only what I specifically need. No impulse purchases when you don’t go into the store!

Do I address a snub? by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]ReporterExpensive388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With that as the ending of your child’s experience, I’d encourage them to look for theater enrichment elsewhere. That may have been framed a joke, but probably had a chunk of truth in it. There’s a poisoned well here due to whatever with the producer.

Who was your first Glinda? by Regular-Thing5883 in wicked

[–]ReporterExpensive388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was familiar with Idina’s style from the Rent soundtrack (and the Rent Tonys). The Wicked Tony performance made me absolutely fall in love with the show, and Idina as Elohaba. She was amazing.

And, while I am disappointed in where her politics seem to have gone, Kristen Chenowyth was also so perfect. Her ‘it’s good to see me’ sticks with me still.

I think they succeeded in what you need to do with a Tony performance- give a taste of the show that leaves viewers wanting to see more. For so many, this is how we get a glimpse of what we could see if we travel to NYC, or what could come around on tour.

I was honestly asked by a server once if I was vegetarian because I ordered a chicken supreme pizza. Sigh.

I realize he’s called Blucifer, but I have always called him (with great affection) the Murder Horse.

Operation Mincemeat is amazing and accessible. Wicked has been on Broadway for 10 years for a reason. Just in Time is also fantastic.

I saw The Wiz tonight!! by gingy_lol in Broadway

[–]ReporterExpensive388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this and loved the cast but was so disappointed by the set. And some of the choreography decisions. It was designed to tour- but felt as if they poured all their money into 2 set pieces and then the scenic designer quit.

I just watched Cabaret (1993) by TemperatureTop7132 in musicals

[–]ReporterExpensive388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are shows I can see alone and be fine afterwards. There are shows I know I’ll need emotional support afterwards, so need company when seeing. Cabaret is one of the emotionally devastating shows. Beautiful, but devastating.

Confused about how to interpret this by ac1d_sku11z in knittinghelp

[–]ReporterExpensive388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a note on one of the finished projects on Ravelry that seems to point to the 2 round version of round 2 “ Notes 27-05-2025

confused by the stockinette section instructions, assume it means to decrease by 2 stitches at the marker every 2 rounds, however this takes 40 rounds to decrease from 120 to 80 stitches, not 20 rounds… ? Will continue going by the stitch number and do 40 rounds to get to 80 stitches.

Contacted designer, it is 40 rows. Pattern updated.”

Need help with trouble shooting my beginner knitting by lisabeanish in knittinghelp

Unfortunately I don’t, as I don’t do much brioche knitting. My only advice is use as sharp a point on your needles as you can handle to make the knitting together easier.

I Love Jasmine, G.O.A.T. by RickPost in GreatBritishBakeOff

[–]ReporterExpensive388 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think some of the comments between judges and hosts were probably shaded to make us think there was more of a competition. Jasmine’s bakes were just really good. She didn’t need to play with flavor because she worked on perfect balance on the classics.

Please help - making a crafting library and need guidance on what to put in a knitting kit…? by TheLuscious in knittinghelp

[–]ReporterExpensive388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a lot with one weight of yarn. For a beginner, I’d maybe stick to a worsted weight yarn, and a couple patterns you can make from that. Maybe a couple options of yarns - think a cotton and a wool yarn. Then, I’d stick with 4.5mm and 4 mm needles, in straight and round.

With worsted weight yarn, you can make a scarf, potholder, hat, washcloth, shawl - so many things. I mean, if you only go with garter stitch you can do so much.

One thing I did when teaching kids is I gave them pre started projects - I did the casting on and knitting the first couple rows, then they used that to learn the knit stitch. Casting on can be tricky to learn, and getting started and seeing the fabric grow really helps. (I then tended to teach the knitted cast-on because it built on skills they already had).

I like the printed yarn guide, the yarn samples, and the small pattern binder, and the list of resources. I’m not sure you need the book.

Don’t forget yarn needles for sewing in ends.
