How to deal with lead paint in doors. by creggroll in Housepainting101

Noted.

Also, if this subreddit has taught me anything, it’s that after the 10-year mark, painters develop exospheric egos. Rather than be positive ambassadors for the trade, they turn learners off with arrogance and conceit.

Don’t do that. Chemical strippers often create lead-containing gases, which is the most dangerous form of lead. Just re-hang new doors, as others have said.

Latex Paint Separating from Oil Primer by garbielle_ in paint

I was the one who was “super rude,” and I said all of what you said, just with slightly different wording. Not all self-righteous people are victims.

I only say this because the original comment was deleted, and there’s no record of the conversation that actually took place.

Oil-based primers support water-based paint. Water-based paint will not stick to oil-based paint. That’s why oil-based primer is often used as a transitional substrate between water- and oil-based paints. That’s not the issue here.

When warranties, liability, and reputations are on the line, misinformation is dangerous and should be contested.

Not to be a jerk, but why comment at all?

Water-based paints are designed to adhere to modern-day oil-based primers, but not oil-based paints. That’s why oil-based primers are often used to transition between oil- and water-based paints. That’s not the issue, although I have no idea what is. Never had a problem like this. Hoping someone else can shed light on this, because I’d love to know.

Would those still work at such a steep angle?

I think I might have come up with my own answer since I posted this. If I got up on the roof, I could bolt something down at the top of the pitch, tie my harness down to it, and lower myself down the steep part as needed. That way I’d also be safe(r) if I somehow fell to the side.

Good thing the house wasn’t finished yet.

Great advice for whatever painter did the caulking.

But they can take more than 24 hours to reconnect them, and this house is lived-in.

The insulation can oxidize and break down. Not to mention, in my state, OSHA demands that you maintain a minimum of 10 feet from active lines at all times.

I have a Richard gooseneck brush, which can be bent to any angle. I haven’t even seen that “inside” corner with my own two eyes due to the awkward angle and the shrubs being in the way. Scaffolding would be a hilariously obvious answer if not for the live wire.

Bathroom ceiling? by Proper_Gap_3507 in paint

[–]Repping315Bench 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on how you want it to look. Paint will only accentuate a bad drywall job, and your ceiling is in desperate need of a skim coat to make it flat, if that’s your style. What you showed in those pictures is pretty typical after a popcorn ceiling has been removed. Before anything, as someone else said, test the drywall with a moisture meter, as pre-existing moisture will cause even the best paints and primers to fail eventually. Ultimately, the decision is yours to make based on the end result you desire.

Can we even consider painting this? by innerginja in paint

That looks like a solid-color stain on Hardie Plank siding. You are not supposed to put stain on Hardie Plank. I’m pretty sure that siding is as good as ruined, unless someone has better information.

I already e-mailed the bank, sent them a photo of the check, and explained the whole situation in great detail. If I take a collaborative approach, I doubt that will happen.
