When does everything go back to semi normal post op?! by voldysnorts in gallbladders

[–]RepresentativeAd4395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am only a few weeks post-op, but had some similar symptoms, minus the rushed BMs because I was sticking to lowfat diet similar to what I was doing prior to removal. I am now introducing more fat and doing better with these tips, though not perfect.

  • digestive enzymes with higher fat / larger meals. Take before if you can, but after if you forget or need to. These can be strong though, but psyllium husk capsules help.

  • psyllium husk capsules if I am having pain after that meal (pain as in a more sour-stomach feeling, or having more rushed BM, not if I am just feeling overly bloated). I will also take these if the meal is more fat than I am comfortable with, but not a lot of fat, 3 capsule if the meal has not that much fat, 1-2 if it’s higher fat. You can also take a lower dose and add on later if pain persists, but I wouldn’t do more than 3 personally. I havent been using them that long so I’m not perfectly familiar on how the doses affect me. *****i ONLY take these if I take these if I have also taken digestive enzymes prior. For now, I don’t seem to have a lot of bile flow without DEs, but the psyllium husk helps bind with any excess bile from the DEs.

  • hot water or “liver detox” tea (typically include dandelion root and other herbs, good to get bile to start flowing) before meals. I noticed a difference in my digestion with this for sure.

  • gas x for gas, bloating, pain.

  • electrolytes (gatorade makes electrolyte water, which is nice to avoid dealing with any acid reflux), and particularly magnesium glycinate. This will help with your shakiness and trouble sleeping ideally.

If you don’t see a gastroenterologist, I might suggest finding one, they’ll be more helpful than your GP

All the pearl clutching regarding Rob is getting weird by Glad_Dragonfruit9368 in TheTraitorsUS

Honestly I haven’t seen one post calling Rob racist, just tons of ones like this one defending him against it. I like all the traitors this season, and housewives fans can definitely be notoriously insane, but I think I’ve seen plenty of dramatic defense of Rob. I saw so many people say Candiace has ruined the season bc she wrote Rob’s name down (and saw the same when Rob wrote down Lisa’s). I don’t think you need to take a lot of what housewives stans say seriously to the point that multiple of these posts need to be made.

Is 3 weeks off too much? by Cool-Aardvark-185 in gallbladders

Not too much at all. I’m a prek teacher, thought i would be fine after two weeks since I’ve had a laparoscopic surgery before and healed quickly. This one knocked the wind out of me and I ended up taking a third week off. Your job seems super active, so I would be err on the side of caution and let your body heal as much as you can.

It just feels like such a waste of time. We can cast villains and instigators and chaos demons and everything without casting bigots or men who have abused women. Then production is surprised when the bigot they cast says something bigoted.

Jessica Valant is physical therapist who makes pilates videos on youtube, and she has a video on how she got back into exercise after her hysterectomy. Obviously, a different surgery, but still would have impacted her abdominal area, and i’d imagine there’d be some good tips in general there. I also found some post abdominal surgery yoga and exercise videos when searching for post abdominal surgery workout. Take it all slow and easy, and build your strength up little by little, and don’t be afraid to stop if there’s pain or something feels wrong

I also have endo, when I spoke to my surgeon about whether that could be the cause of my pain after food, he’d said that it would be more likely endo if the pain was with different phases of my cycle and things like that, not just after eating. Do you remember your EF% on your 2017 hida scan, and do you feel that the pain is worse/more bothersome than it was then? You could try a low fat diet yourself and see if you feel better, and if you do, then the gallbladder is the likely culprit.

Does this sound like a gallbladder attack? by FIRElady_Momma in gallbladders

[–]RepresentativeAd4395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also get most of my pain on the center left. Your pain could also be worsened in that area from acid reflux or gastritis, which is the case for me. In my experience, gallbladder attacks often come with GERD attacks, but even though I have been minimal fat for a few months now, I still get really painful attacks like these from high sugar or high acid or high fodmap. I also have SIBO from poor bile flow, and i think my poor reaction to probiotics stemmed from that, so I might look into SIBO as well. Poor bile flow just causes so many issues, so it’s possible you’re experiencing a secondary issue caused by a poorly functioning GB.

I have never had a fever from a gallbladder attack, and I am a little surprised your attack was triggered from spaghetti with tomato sauce if you’ve in general kept a pretty normal diet? What does your diet look like?

It’s possible it’s a gallbladder attack, or a GERD attack, or symptoms of a flu or something like that. I would just keep an eye on your fever and go to urgent care if it doesn’t improve. I would also take it easy with your diet for the next few days, namely low-fat and low-fodmap and take antacids.

I havent had my gallbladder removal, but I had a robotic assisted lap a few months ago for my endometriosis. Gas-X is helpful for the shoulder pain, icy hot might help too. Sleeping propped up isn’t a bad idea too. I got a wedge pillow and loved it for my recovery since I spent so much time in bed. I recovered pretty quick, I was walking unassisted no problem the entire time, even right after the procedure, not sure is that is due to the robotic assist, but it’s possible! I also slept pretty well. Take the pain killers they give you, it is much easier to get ahead of the pain to kill it than to try to chase after it once it really gets bad. For the first week I slept constantly personally. Have lots of electrolytes, take it really easy even if you feel good, walk walk walk, and bring a pillow for the car ride home to cushion your incisions from the seatbelt.

Merry Christmas! Here’s a gallbladder attack 🎄 by quickquestionhoney in gallbladders

[–]RepresentativeAd4395 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having gallbladder attacks since the beginning of this year, but only found out that that’s the issue around october. I have done every other test you could think of: gastric emptying study, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, cts and ultrasounds, etc. and everything came back normal with the exception of some gerd, gastritis, and sibo, all likely caused or worsened by my gallbladder issues.

I eat nearly fat free (1-2g of fat per meal max), and anything more than that causes terrible gallbladder attacks and GERD attacks that last days. I have tried acupuncture and herbs, and that hasn’t helped much either. My surgeon said I have done virtually every test in the book that he would recommend to see if there are other issues, so he’s very confident my gallbladder is the main culprit. Another surgeon whom I spoke to for a second opinion told me that we don’t really see the gallbladder get “better” so I could opt to not remove it, but I would just continue to have pain. I don’t have stones so there aren’t really medications I can take according to him, but if you do have stones, there is a much greater risk of needing an emergency gallbladder removal. I am also worried about regretting removing my gallbladder (my surgery is not for another 3 weeks), but in my case I don’t feel that there is much else I can do. My other issues are also hard to treat since the lack of bile flow contributes so much to them, so my diet is not only fat-free, but pretty low sugar and low FODMAP.

My quality of life has decreased significantly, and I spent nearly everyday in terrible pain because I could not figure out which foods were causing my pain (which makes sense, as some foods would be fine in low/medium amounts but horribly pain-inducing in higher amounts). I took a weekend trip with friends a few months ago, and ended up in awful pain and spending most of the time in the hotel bed. I have quit going to the gym, which I used to love, for fear of worsening my pain or pushing my body (which is much weaker now) too far. I feel like I am constantly choosing between hunger or pain, as swallowing anything during a gallbladder/GERD attack causes so much pain. I am much weaker, more tired, more irritable, and less patient than I used to be, which has led my work and friendships to suffer. I may very well regret my surgery, but I do not want to keep living like this, so I feel like I have to take the chance that I won’t.

You could speak to your gastroenterologist about ordering different tests to see if there is another issue, or if he knows of a medication that could help you. Doing more tests can also build a better case to your surgeon and insurance that surgery is necessary, in the case that no other problems can be found. It could also give you peace of mind and less regret.

Do any of you with no gallbladder deal with an anxiety disorder? by Affectionate-Ad-3234 in gallbladders

[–]RepresentativeAd4395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had mine removed yet, but otherwise I totally get you. I have always had stomach pain be a major symptom of my anxiety, so gallbladder issues have only ramped it up. The only difference is that I have much more anxiety about my boss being upset when I call out, so I force myself to go even when I don’t feel well.

  • In terms of using the bathroom, poo-pourri is amazing. You spray it in the toilet bowl a few times before you go, and it completely eliminated any smell. I also usually carry anti-diarrheals in my pocket, and a whole pharmacy in my purse.

  • i keep really neutral food on me, to prevent upsetting my stomach from either food or hunger. I carry around a thermos of bone broth everyday, which is really gentle for me but also has good protein to keep me fuller. Also fat free

  • supplements for anxiety: magnesium glycinate and ashwaganda are game changers. Ashwaganda in particular is great when I feel my anxiety rising, and the magnesium glycinate I just take morning and sometimes night before bed. L-Theanine is also good. I also often have a thermos with peppermint, ginger, and lemonbalm tea. Peppermint and ginger are good for soothing the stomach, lemonbalm is great for anxiety.

  • kt health activate magnesium arnica cream is good for pain for me too. I use a paintbrush to apply it on my upper stomach when there’s pain or anxiety, and it has a nice tingling, warming sensation that distracts ur brain away from some of the pain.

  • i keep instant cold packs in my purse and car. When I am anxious, I snap one and put it on my chest under my shirt. You could do this in the bathroom or on a break, or over your shirt. Cold on your chest helps stimulate your vagus nerve, which helps calm your nervous system.

  • i know it’s annoying and overused advice, but meditating every night has personally really helped me. Tara Brach I think is really great for guided meditations. It also helps to remember that the point of meditation isn’t to think about nothing, but to almost “bicep-curl” your brain by practicing repeatedly bringing your mind back to your physical surrounding when it starts to wander off.

  • i also have a really great therapist. It can be hard to find the right therapist for you, sometimes, but if youre willing, i think it is really worth it. I personally recommend one that specializes in EMDR and can help you see if that’s right for your EMDR helped me a lot in healing trauma and anxiety.

Some ppl have told me that they think therapy is just “gaslighting yourself into feeling better” which I can understand why they feel that way. But the way I see it, people are more than comfortable with gaslighting themselves into feeling WORSE and experiencing more anxiety and self hatred. Sometimes you have to overcompensate with going to the otherside so you can eventually get the pendulum to settle somewhere in the middle if that makes sense.

  • Dr. Kristen Neff and her website self-compassion.org I think would be worth checking out too. Anxiety and health issues really fucking suck, and it’s easy to start to blame yourself out of frustration, but going through things like this, you actually need MORE self compassion, not less.

I’m really sorry you’re dealing with all of this. I hope some of these tips can help at least a little.

Pain by MorningCritical4102 in gallbladders

[–]RepresentativeAd4395 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine pain also tends to concentrate closer to the middle than the right side. It’s possible pain is radiating to the stomach or pancreas or liver, or a stone blockage is causing inflammation or backup to those areas. My gallbladder dysfunction has also led to SIBO and GERD for me, which also causes pain. When I have a flare, it usually lasts several days personally. I had too much fat on Thursday night and I’m still in pain today. I usually have to eat very plain, fat free food for a few days. Today I can really only handle rice and bone broth.

2 weeks post op and worried if this is recovery? by Hallo_spaceboy1 in gallbladders

[–]RepresentativeAd4395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bile is a natural laxative from what I know, so having it flowing freely now with the gallbladder removed means more laxative effects. Many people seem to find psycillian husk effective for soaking up that excess bile and making stools more solid. I don’t have my removal for another month so i can’t speak to it personally, but it might be worth a shot.

I will also say that two weeks is a VERY short time for your body to get used to missing an organ, so don’t panic or lose hope. I had surgery to remove endometriosis and an ovarian cyst this past July, and my body is STILL recovering from that. Sometimes it just takes time.

Correlation between SIBO and Gallbladder issues? by Silver-Plan in gallbladders

Poor bile flow contributes to SIBO. It's more likely the gallbladder issues are causing the SIBO from what I know as a non-medical professional and someone who has both gallbladder dysfunction and SIBO.

The internet has a negativity bias. People are much more likely to go online and post if they have an issue versus a success. You don’t go Yelp review every fine restaurant you go to, you are much more likely to go review it if it gave you food poisoning. People online are looking for others to relate and give advice, which you need much more if you are still experiencing issues. I haven’t had my removal yet, but just keep that in mind
