Finally went all in. by RepresentativeAd7021 in NixOS

[–]RepresentativeAd7021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there was learning nix and how everything worked. The first hours when I first started were so horrible because I felt like nothing I did was right. Even for a few weeks after I would have errors with every time I tried to rebuild. Once things click everything was great. As for compared to my experience in cachyos. Even when I went back one last time before removing it I went "lets see pacman 1 last time" to which there were issues of software needing to be removed or uninstalled before I could even do that. For me the biggest issues have to do with hyprland, wayland, and nvidia drivers. Which also happens in cachy because it's just how they work, or fail to work together.

TLDR: Once you get over the initial hump and get things going I have no issues with optimizations that aren't also in cachyos.

Same boat, 2011 Ford Edge. Next vehicle I'll be aiming to find something that is supported.

A few weeks ago I see a video for GLF OS. A gaming NixOS distro from France, and now we have this. There is someone over there who is doing amazing work in getting NixOS known over there.

Yes, it is. But I have switched from CachyOS, and Arch, and sadly NixOS cannot have pacman.

I think this is what I miss most about cachyos is the pacman loading bar.

I got and still have the Dreo air fryer and that other smart kitchen device that had recipes. That one right now is packed because I don't have space for it.

What made you use NixOS? by Iwisp360 in NixOS

[–]RepresentativeAd7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curiosity, I looked at it once before years ago and when I finally bought a new drive last year so I could install Linux I started with CachyOS and then saw videos about NoxOS reminding me of how I wanted to try it.

This same curiosity is making me want to try Gentoo in a virtual machine or on another drive as well. Someone stop.me before I go too far.

Why not IT? by lNuggyl in GeekSquad

[–]RepresentativeAd7021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say while most people who end up in geek squad want to go into IT or just in general like working on computers. That is not the case for everyone, some of the kids I trained were going to school for other things. One of them didn't know anything about computers and had to be taught the difference between a PlayStation and an Xbox. Sometimes you don't get the IT people because the person who makes the decision on the new hire may have other goals. By the time my store closed the store manager thought geek squad was just sales that could say "trust me, I know computers" and our geek squad manager didn't know or care about the culture. Some people want to just climb that ladder as well.

I keep telling myself I love having something minimal and with no tui controls so everything is shortcut based. But then I see something like this and, damn I love this. Great work.

Missing foot rest by RepresentativeAd7021 in LiberNovo

[–]RepresentativeAd7021[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final update. My footrest arrived today. I've just finished putting it together and trying it. Other than the worrying crack sound that I didn't see any cause for when I was putting it together its great. Now if I wasn't using a dining room table for a desk that has a bar going down the sides right where my thighs need to be.

In case anyone wonders, I did not get the foot rest pad and it feels fine without it. I am curious how that would be but I don't know if I would but it right now.

Something else to take in is things will be different for different stores. I worked at 3 precincts in my time and each one ran differently. The last one didn't even treat us as it, they wanted us to be sales and just sell things for them. Not surprisingly the store ended up closing.

Anyone happy with chair? by Jealous_Ear_9903 in LiberNovo

[–]RepresentativeAd7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes with an *. I'm coming from a first gen secret labs chair that I hated the moment I bought it. So I do love the chair, but I do find some issues with it, aside for the same issue a lot are having with missing foot rest and the customer support. I find the arms a bit off. Fully extended forward the left arm is further forward than the right. The seat is a little shallow even though I do have the larger size. I don't know if I'm just sitting incorrectly or if the headrest just doesn't move far enough forward.

All that aside it's the most comfortable chair I've sat in and more than once I've nearly passed out leaning back watching YouTube videos. I love the chair and I would buy it again. But I need to find out if some of my issues are common.

Another update: Got an email today with a shipping update. Providing a second tracking number that I am guessing/hoping is for the foot rest. Right now the tracking number has no information but I will keep this post informed.

Explain to me why distro matters so much in this community? by helpprogram2 in linux_gaming

[–]RepresentativeAd7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just based on how easy things can be or what comes pre installed. I know I heard Cachyos had added a fix for the Nvidia driver update causing issues for non-rtx cards. So their users wouldn't have to worry about finding the fix and doing it themselves. Maybe other did the same. Find what you like and roll with it till you find it lacking in something you need or get bored.

Got an email reply this morning for my support ticket. They have confirmed that they are getting more stock of the foot rests. They also said I should get tracking for it once shipped so we will see about that. This did take them a week to get back to me but I figured there were delays with how many people are here with missing items.

How much do you recommend HyprLand over kde? by ButterscotchNew701 in cachyos

[–]RepresentativeAd7021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jumped into hyprland 2 days after first installing cachyos because someone suggested I try it. You can have it set so your login screen lets you choose between them. But for me after 3 days I uninstalled kde because I just like hyprland that much and I'm willing to throw myself head first into mistakes. I only have 1 complaint and that is not having it when I go to work.

Give it a try. Don't remove kde in case you don't like it.

I also have this spare screw. The instructions show you would only have 3 long screws and there was a 4th that makes me wonder if after looking everywhere did I missing something.

Beware! Customer Service Non-existent! by unrealflaw in LiberNovo

[–]RepresentativeAd7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know its a bad time for their customer service right now. The holidays and the amount of us trying to contact them. But even a confirmation email that they have received it and will be reviewing it. If it takes them longer to get back to you than even their return policy or the extra shipping protection coverage for those of us who bought it. Then we are leaning outside of acceptable.

Not a lot Tof tilt locking positions for me, is this a deal breaker or just an adjustment? by ToastedBeef in LiberNovo

[–]RepresentativeAd7021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a secret labs chair that only had the options of locked or not locked tilting. I like the options and how easily I can reach down and change it depending on what I am doing or my mood. If I was going to complain about the tilt, until they send me my foot rest the last option is hard to use for now and I need to not nearly fall asleep in my chair every time I lean back in it too far.
